Son was there for a month and pulled him right out after a physical assault. Would have pulled him out sooner due to the education he was receiving. Firstly called the school to get a feel for the teacher she sounded burnt out and overwhelmed as a first impression this really upset me but we just thought maybe she was having an off day. She has reported several times that she does not have the staff nor equipment she needs to teach her class effectively. During the IEP meeting that I called and arranged for she reported that she uses educational YouTube videos for the students and follows some type of book when teaching the class.. this also was a red flag because everything she was doing for my son in the classroom we were doing at home which I think is unprofessional because why are they watching YouTube videos for their learning. Then the physical assault occurred when my son was attacked by another student he was covered in scratches and his head has a scar from the incident. Principal, the teacher and the TA all failed in protecting my son and what made matters even worse instead of calling me put my son on the bus for a 20 minute bus ride home right next to the boy who attacked him. Never took any accountability for the action that took place teacher said she was watching other kids when it happened and made every excuse in the book. Principal was clueless just sat there and kept saying no proper training has ever been done but if you look at the other reviews this is not the first incident. Asked about the TA and they just said he wasn't properly trained and went home for the day. I came in there livid and wanting answers and left with no answers and a kid that is now afraid to take the bus and traumatized do not enroll your child here listen to the reviews these people do not care about them and I'm afraid the next "accident" could have long lasting effects as it seems the school is getting worse.

Because it is such a small school, especially in middle school everybody knows everyone because the in only 1 class per grade and the biggest class in middle school in 7th grade (20 people). That being said, if you don't like one person in your class you don't have them for just Math or something, no you see them all day every day. Most of the teachers are great (in middle school at least) I don't think that one person dislikes the Social Studies/Drama teacher or the ELA teacher and her Intern. The only people I have a problem with are the Math teacher and the Librarian, now I know because I put myself as a current student you will think I'm dramatic but NO! I'm not kidding when I say not one person out of all of middle school likes the math teacher and the Librarian, I mean it. But other than that, I have no complaints really about the school.

My daughter had 2 terrible years at Whitman. She went in from private school with strong academics, and was always a thriving student being challenged and encouraged daily. Whitman changed that for the worst.She is now unmotivated, doesn't enjoy going to school, and the electives choice is just a joke. She asked for visual arts 2 years in a row and got turned down every time. Now they give her walking PE. They swapped arts for walking PE? Make that make sense. The stem teacher is amazing, but we were promised a wonderful new stem curriculum this year, students were even encouraged to take stem again to benefit from it - but it did not happen. And families weren't notified either, so she had to do the exact same curriculum this year.There is 0 communication with parents on those issues, and it is clear the admin has better things to do.I would disregard the aging building and lack of inviting amenities if at least the academics and electives were up to par with the other middle school I visited this month.Trust me, there are way better options out there.

All the teachers are fine but the history teacher assigns so much work that even the best students in my grade are drowning in work. I get panic attacks and horrible stress issues because of her, she grades and assigns like a high school teacher. She acts kind and understanding until week 3 of her class, and suddenly you realize she's assigned 3 high school level assignments before your first month of 7th grade. All the other teachers are fine.
