About this House

Are you looking for a home to renovate with a lot of charm, space & an open floorplan in the booming City of Alton? This beauty has its original pocket doors, tall ceilings, hardwood floors & wood door casing! This gem was converted into and used as a doctor's office most recently but is also zoned as a single-family residence. There is a wall currently dividing the Living & Dining Rooms, but it was just created to partition the waiting room from the reception area of the doctor's office & could easily be removed as it's not load-bearing. The Dining Room once featured a Bay Window that could easily be brought back to life by adding the middle window and re-working some of the exterior siding. It could fit a round table up to 7 feet that could seat up to 12 people! The large kitchen features a nice-sized butler's pantry. The possible kitchen configurations are endless! The generously-sized bedrooms have loads of character & are ready for your modern touch. The unfinished attic with tall ceilings could easily be additional living area with zoned heating/cooling HVAC system. A 4th/5th bedroom could be added (w egress windows at the front & back of the house), a bathroom & large family room/rec space added. This classy home is just a 7-minute walk to SIUE Dental School and close to restaurants & coffee shops, making it an excellent rental, flip, or primary residence after renovation. Check out the Fannie Mae HomeStyle or FHA 203(k) loans if you don't have the cash to renovate!

"The commute to Scott AFB is 45 minutes but itโ€™s easy highway driving for the most part. 10 min to reach highway "

"The bus runs right near for someone who needs Public transportation. My commute to work is fairly quick, every once in a while there is a train on the track but other than that. The commute is ok in my book"

"Church on the street comes every other Saturday and gives away free clothes and food for the neighborhood kids."
  • Karencullen
"fireworks, Saturday market, riverfront with amphitheatre, cute historic downtown, cute older homes, near St. Louis."
  • Cadavissr31
"Plenty of kids to play with just don't leave them outside by themselves. As there is nothing for them to do which causes the to find trouble more than not."
  • Louis
"I live here my whole life. It very friendly . Close to Haskell park. There is a farmers market down town. Not to far from stl. "
  • Kayla
"The neighbor is quiet and your houses arenโ€™t right on top of each other. Their is plenty of parks for kids. The school is a good school. "
  • TT
"I've lived here for 22 years, neighbors are great. However, crime is up and riffraff about so safety concerns now that never worried about before."
  • Someonewhoknows2
"This is a beautiful neighborhood with a lot of diversity. It has character and old fashion appeal. Large homes, duplex and apartments with its originality. The community has survived the worst although the love and spirit of the city is here. Perfectly located in the middle of everything, the smell of Fast Eddies Chicken or fried rice from the Hong Kong house decorates the air. I love it here, itโ€™s safe with the beautiful mixture of people from all walks of life. Like with any city this area has its flaws, yet the flaws is what makes the beauty of it all!"
  • Patricialucas78
"easily commute I love my area of town and hope to find a house in my area. love love love it. want to grow old in my area and I raised my kids here too."
  • Claudiaharju
"My neighborhood has fair to good access to public bus transportation. We can drive very easily to Missouri ( 3 mi. to the Louis Clark Bridge.) and surrounding towns in Illinois. I live in the Middletown area in Alton and love it."
  • Laurincbuettner
"We are a tourist attraction because we are supposed to be one of the most haunted cities in America. "
  • Dhowardmbc
"Live in a unique condo in a one of a kind building. Have wonderful view of the Mississippi River. Brick streets. very friendly neighbors."
