1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a parent that currently has a student at Roosevelt. I feel it had vastly improved over the years. I attend every parent-teacher conference, email, have one on one talks with the teachers and other staff and everyone I’ve encountered have been very pleasant and helpful. The teachers really want to teach and guide and not just show up for work. I believe the school is overall getting better and offers a lot of opportunities for students for college, trade schools, and social/emotional growth.Parent Review1y ago - Sigel Elementary Community Ed. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSchool has been gutted of funding and community support by loss of attendance due to large presence of charter schools in area. School is not supported by district effectively to address behavioral issue, safety or special education. Teachers and staff fight hard for students here, get burnt out and then leave. If your kid has an IEP, I suggest changing zip codes, as SLPS does not have Special School District and does all their IEPs in house and support isolation of students with disabilities instead of integration. Lack of resources increases disparities among marginalized youth, students are actively going through trauma while in the building itself and there is only one counselor and one part-time Social Worker who have way too much on their plate. Probably one of the most violent places I have ever worked, and its an elementary school. School has been unable to get a PTO to form over the years, hindering their ability to involve parents and community.Other Review7mo ago

"It’s a developing neighborhood get in a great way fast lived her for over a decade walk my dog for a walk at The Park often polite people the Benton classic bike race yearly and most of the homes are being renovated or have already been I’m middle aged and single so I don’t know much about the school they also have the Mexican festival the sinco Demia on Cherokee yearly it’s mixed neighborhood poor to middle class but most seem to be good people if not all very quiet fast response by police and very polite and courteous "

"This neighborhood has a touchy reputation, but I've always felt safe and secure. People are friendly and look out for each other. There is also beautiful architecture, lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance, and family-friendly parks. I liked TGS when I lived there, but I think BPW is better: more affordable, and actually safer. "

"I would never want to raise a family in this neighborhood. Gun shot/loud boom sounds everyday. Im always hearing about home invasions going on in the neighborhood and it is just absurd. Looking to move somewhere more pleasant and SAFE."

"As a dog-mom of two active puppers, I LOVE our neighborhood. Our yard is large enough for the two of them to blow off some steam, and for longer walks theres a great park just two blocks away. Most of my neighbors have dogs also, so they have plenty of friends to 'chat' with across the fence. "

"They keep parks and gardens maintained. It's quite in my area, parking is no issue. They are also building up the community, refurbishing old abandoned houses as well. "

"Lots of crime. I've already been robbed twice in less than a year. Gunshots and sirens are nearly an everyday occurrence. My car was hit and I never found out who did it. I love the house that I rent and would love to buy it, but I don't see myself staying in this neighborhood, especially since I have a family."

"Great neighbors that watch out for each other. Always someone outside to chat with or say hi. I walk my dogs twice a day and my neighbors are always ready to let us know if any problems or concerns. I feel safe here all the time. Short walk to Cherokee restaurants and Grand shopping. "
