Providence High School is one of the finest public schools in the greater Charlotte area. The teachers are genuinely experienced, and the school maintains a somewhat strict environment.There is a strong focus on college prep, SAT/ACT readiness, and rigorous coursework. Math, in particular, is known to be challenging at the school. It feels as if silence is rewarded, rather than natural curiosity— which is a fundamental element to learning.The school has a good arts program, which is a breath of fresh air from other schools I’ve seen/ been to.But what I’m concerned about is how I’ve caught myself counting down the hours multiple times, rather than enjoying learning— which, if I’m properly informed, goes against the goal of the school as a whole.I witnessed a staff member scold and, frankly, argue with a student over a hat.
