Lovingly referred to as ''The Swan Victorian'', this gorgeous, historic home has a rich history. As far as we can tell, it was first owned by Mr. Maxwell from Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1900s. Many locals will remember it as a nursing home in the 1990s. Over the years following, The Swan was not well-maintained and had much deferred maintenance. Fast forward to January 2020 when an enthusiastic redheaded girl (and real estate agent) named Mandy refinanced her own house so she could purchase this babe of a building for $100,000 and bring it back to life. She even made an Instagram account for the building which quickly gained over 12,000 followers (@theswanvictorian)! 3 months later the pandemic hit, building material prices skyrocketed and everything felt hard. Mandy's enthusiasm kept her pushing forward, and she put a new roof on the building (35k), did major tree work/removal (10k) had a ton of interior work done (20k - including a gorgeous, unique floor), and in 2021, paid a painting contractor $60,000 to completely overhaul the exterior, which had tons of rot and unfinished paint work. This is where the story turns sad. The painting contractor took all of her money, and only partially completed the job. This shifted the energy of the project, and after MUCH deliberation, she has decided to pass this project off to the next steward. This building has SO much potential. It could be a cool coffee shop or commercial space with Airbnb's upstairs (there's a new wedding venue that just opened down the street!); it could be multiple apartments; it could be a luxurious, single family home! Come take a peak and daydream about the possibilities. Since this property does not currently have heat or a kitchen, cash, a hard money lender, or a construction loan are your only options to purchase. Also note that the town of Richmond has a special program where they give up to $30,000 a year on exterior facade upgrades! This is HUGE! Come see what The Swan has to offer.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school year most of the teachers are brand new, straight out of college. Before a lot of the teachers weren't very good at teaching and just here, "Here's your laptop, read the assignment on google docs and do it." Now there is much more interaction with the students. We can't tell really how much better the teaching will be yet, but it has definitely improved on that respect. One problem a lot of the system has is that it does emphasize too much on sports no matter what season it is (soccer, basketball, or baseball/softball). The students regularly get taken out of school to go to away games several hours away or even practice just outside of the school. They also have the new 1-4 grading system that doesn't prepare anyone for life beyond school with almost no deadlines. The school also tries to integrate special needs students with regular learning students, and most of the time this really doesn't help anyone. There have only been problems. Almost everyday we have "code greens" go off, which means a special needs student needs restraining. It is improving though, it's just taking longer than anyone is expecting.Student Review11y ago - Richmond Middle School
