About this House

This beautifully designed and spacious 3 bedroom beach house sits on one of the most spectacular salt ponds in southern coastal Rhode Island. The home is situated on a corner of Ninigret Pond with your own private dock, mooring, and access to the Atlantic ocean. Via a quick motor or paddle, you can enjoy a picnic or beachcombing on beautiful East Beach for oceanside relaxation. Breathtaking, sweeping views from sunrise to sunset will make every day memorable. Quonochontaug, ???Quonnie??? is the nickname for this waterfront gem location. Located between two salt ponds, Ninigret Pond and Quonochontaug Pond, the area houses several hundred mostly summer residents. Today, many houses are available as summer rentals. Quonochontaug was a busy and fashionable resort of small hotels and boarding houses in the 19th Century, continuing up until the Great Hurricane of 1938. Blue Shutters Town Beach is located at the end of East Beach Road in Quonochontaug. To the east of Blue Shutters an unpaved road leads to the entrance of the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge. The idyllic beach community of Quonnie is located 90 minutes from Boston and Hartford and a quick 3 hours by car or train from NYC. Perfect for families and groups of friends alike. Nestled between Watch Hill and Newport, Quonnie offers a laid-back, friendly environment that is a perfect escape for people of all ages. With beach access on the open Atlantic Ocean and both fresh and salt ponds, Quonnie affords pretty much every water-sport imaginable. While many choose to spend their time in Quonnie relaxing on the beach during the days and with a meal or cocktail overlooking the water in the evenings, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Watch Hill and its quaint shops and restaurants are a short drive up the road in one direction and Point Judith, Narragansett and Newport are in the other - providing access to all of the shopping, charter fishing and mansion touring that one could ask for. There are also eight golf courses within a 15 minute drive and for the more adventurous visitors; two of the largest casinos in the world (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) are just a short drive away.

"Ninigret park has a seafood festival in the summer that attracts many visitors. Beach season can get a little hectic but Charlestown tends to stay less touristy "
  • Gtaman533
"Restrictions on beaches, only 1 dog park, other than that this is a great town to own a dog. No pet stores in charlestown."
  • Pat.j.harmon
"Not many sidewalks but thereโ€™s a nice dog park and lots of hiking trails, both in the woods, in parks, and near the beaches. "
  • Dianeloper
"this is a great community to raise a family. I was radied here and I have raised my family here. I feel safe and my neighbors are great."
  • Paula P.
"That the visitors understand the beach access ways. Jellyfish stings hurt and they need to know how to treat them. We just carry mustard."
  • Keneirons
"no public transportation. t I'm retired so it doesn't effect me nearest public transportation is a railroad station eight miles away. "
  • Pat.j.harmon
"Charlestown is a great little town - partly rural, partly beach town, friendly neighbors, great little library, good family area. "
  • Melissamwray
"Lots of other dog owners walking, nice big yards, homes are far enough apart that dogs donโ€™t bother neighbors. "
  • Mike K.
"Was a summer community mostly when i lived here in the 70s. I have been back every year since moving away"
  • Sandy B.
"I live in South County and just a few miles from this home, that is near Charlestown Beaches, Newport, Narragansett and Westerly. Great Location, rural yet close to all the amenities that South County has to offer."
  • Brian M.
"I have had a seasonal home here for the past 15 years. It is a quiet area with an exceptional private beach with deeded right of way to the ocean/beach limited to about 12 property owners. Located on a barrier beach with Ocean front and Ninigret Pond to the rear. Deep-water access from Ninigret to Block Island Sound/Atlantic Ocean through Charlestown Breachway. Excellent swimming, wave surfing, sunbathing, fishing, kayaking on site and hiking close by."
