About this House

Two upstairs rooms in our South Berkeley 4br/2ba house are available on a month-to-month lease starting June 1 (may be available sooner if need be). Partially furnished or unfurnished as needed.

WHITE ROOM
The room (~10.5 x 11.5+) is on the southwest corner of the house, and gets a lot of light through its four windows. There is also a closet, and a nook that fits a desk that comes with the room. The mattress is available for free, or it can be removed if needed. The chest freezer shown in the pictures does not come with the room.

The room is $1523.51 / month plus ~$100 utilities. To move in, first month's rent and a deposit (~one month's rent) are due.

BLUE ROOM
The room (~12 x 9+) is on the northwest corner of the house, has a closet and a private balcony with a doorway directly to the outside. The balcony comes with a table and chairs. It's perfect for an after-work glass of wine or reading in the sun. Plus it's directly in front of a plum tree that is bountiful in the summer!

A small extra room under the stairwell is also nominally included, as an extra storage space / work-from-home office. It's spacious enough for a desk, chair and bookcase.

The room is $1523.51 / month plus ~$100 utilities. To move in, first month's rent and a deposit (~one month's rent) are due.

THE HOUSE
The house is 4br / 2ba and equipped with a full kitchen, breakfast nook, living room, guest room, a dishwasher and washer/dryer. There are two fridges in the kitchen, and a small fridge in the living room for drinks, two full, shared bathrooms, one upstairs with a classic clawfoot tub with shower, and one downstairs with a modern enclosed shower. The backyard is huge and well taken care of by the landlord, with tables, chairs for lounging and even a BBQ, which we have taken ample advantage of during our time here. There is ample storage space in the attic, one free parking space in the driveway and available street parking. The house is a 15-minute walk from campus, a 10-minute walk from Berkeley Bowl and Whole Foods, 5-min walk from CVS, 5 minutes from multiple buslines, a 15/20-minute walk to Ashby Bart, and a 5-minute drive to Downtown Berkeley.

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.

THE PEOPLE
The house is normally occupied by four people. Two current residents are a former UCB PhD now working on a startup (M) and a UCB chemistry postdoc (M) who love to cook and hike. We like to hang out and have dinner together occasionally, though we're also pretty independent and out of the house much of the time. The two people moving out would love to stay, but they unfortunately (fortunately) have taken new jobs outside of the area.

"Great access to public transit, both bus and BART, with good bikes lanes as well. There is also a ferry in the Berkeley marina"
  • Trulia User
"The residents are nice people and there’s a good number of kids. But there are often transients walking through the area."
  • Nayana S.
"Great place to take dogs around as this place is lot like homely and much green bushes. I have seen many dogs walking in the neighbourhood "
  • Torrence P.
"Lots of things to see and do. Diverse and vibrant. It does get loud at night. Public transportation is excellent. "
  • Sara M.
"Lots of students in the area because of the proximity to UC Berkeley. Its also a very political area, marches and cops and helicopters are not uncommon in response to the political climate. "
  • Poppop g. a. t.
"I lived in this neighborhood for 3 years. Since it's just south of the UC Berkeley campus, there is a lot of foot traffic and noise when school is in session. Mostly students live in this neighborhood but there are a ton of homeless people lying on the sidewalks and they can get pretty aggressive. Plenty of cheap restaurants catering to students as well."
  • Rolf
"Great walkable neighborhood with lovely historical homes. Very diverse community."
  • Rolf
"Berkeley has high property taxes with the outcome of good public services and excellent schools. This part of south Berkeley is bicycle friendly with great grocery stores (perhaps the best options in the State!) plus neighbors who walk and know each other. A very enjoyable & diverse neighborhood."
  • Misha
"A perfect 10-15 minute walk to the Cal Campus or the upscale, but delicious Elmwood area. Animal friendly neighborhood, with a fairly strong neighborhood association. The Julia Morgan Theater and Benvenue Public Library as well as excellent schools are just some of the treasures of this area."
