About this House

A fully furnished house for rent available from February 1 untilMay 31 (with the possibility to extend), for $2000 per month (plus a $200 cleaning fee and not including utilities: electric, internet, heating oil, garbage pick-up).
This 2 bed 1 bath farmhouse, between the Catskills and the Shawangunk mountains on a quiet country road, bordering a gently babbling creek, is under two hours from NYC. Set on 1.5 acres and surrounded by over 20 acres of woods and the only neighbors in sight are the horses that graze just up the road. This is the perfect destination to commune with nature and relax in peace and quiet.

The house has been a labor of love over the last few years with new hardwood floors, a large new deck, a new roof, exterior and lot of other details. It has two bedrooms with queen size beds, an eat-in kitchen (fully equipped with a new electric stove, dishwasher, microwave, blender, juicer, food processor, etc), and one bathroom with a bathtub/shower. The spacious living room has a majestic stone fire place, rustic barn wood walls. It's connected to a newly finished sitting room with a 9 foot accordion door that fully opens to merge the interior with the outdoors, with a large, two-tier deck to enjoy the secluded surroundings full of wildflowers, dozens of species of birds, deer, occasional foxes, and in the right seasons lighting bugs or the autumn leaves. Along the north side of the property runs the Good Beerkill Creek, which is stocked with trout during the spring/summer season. A path leads from the house to Adirondack chairs perched above the creek, with stone steps leading down to it.

Ellenville is just under a two hour drive from NYC, at the southern end of the Catskills and west of the Shawangunk mountains. Though situated at a 1000 ft elevation the house just a ten minute drive from downtown. Ellenville is an up-and-coming town, recently written up in the New York Times, with a lot going on, including a longstanding theater company, farmers markets and street fairs, a growing arts community, a private jazz club, restaurants (mexican, jamaican, italian, dominican, pizza, pub, etc.) as well as two good supermarkets, a Walmart and Ellenville regional hospital. It's a short drive to Minnewaska state Park, the Mohonk Preserve and many great spots for hiking, swimming, skiing, biking, or even hang gliding or flying lessons. Charming nearby towns Stone Ridge, Kerhonkson, Accord, Mountaindale and Livingston Manor (all less than 30 mins away) have a lot to offer and bigger towns like Kingston, New Paltz, Woodstock are under an hour away.
So there's plenty to do, or you can do nothing but relax on the hammock or out on the deck, in the sun or shade, listening to the sound of the birds and the babbling creek, watching deer stroll by...

Guests have access to all of the first floor living space and to the basement laundry. The rest of the basement, garage and attic are not provided for guest access. The seat in the sitting room can be turned in to a single bed for one additional guest, if desired please let us know and we can provide bedding for it. Please be gentle if using the piano, and please don't allow children to bang on it, it can be tuned upon request for a fee. No smoking and no parties are allowed in the house.

The property borders a neighbor's horse ranch and we ask you to admire their beautiful but sensitive horses from a respectful distance.
