4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHickory Flat Elementary School has been a terrible experience for my children. Children are constantly threatened/given with "silent lunch" for unjustified reasonings (ie. standing up at their desk to grab paper out of their backpack or forgetting their lunch tags at home). I have watched educators scream at children in the lunch room for being what they thought was "too loud", but in my opinion was normal lunch noise. More specifically, cases of sexual harrassment from students are swept under the rug by the school and board with no repercussions having both the victim and parents feeling helpless. The bus system is a joke and absolutely chaotic. Drop off times change daily and its unsettling. Unruly kids are able to continue to misbehave without any consequences on the bus even after being reported multiple times. For the rating, I truly had my hopes high for this school, but it has been a rough year. I do not recommend your child attending this school.Parent Review1y ago - Union Grove High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMany of these reviews are from disgruntled parents and students who didn't get what they wanted. Both of my sons graduated from UG (2012 & 2018) and it is an EXCELLENT school. Is it big? Yes...don't enroll at a school with 1600+ students if you expect a lot of hand-holding and personal attention from the counselors. The staff is top-notch for the most part (the band director doesn't enter grades when he should, and the PE classes are something of a joke), though we did have a few issues with an English teacher (basically refused to honor the 504 plan) and a Social Studies teacher (FAR too religious and pushed her beliefs on students, but she's gone now). There is a culture of high expectations and self-efficacy, as well as responsibility. And locking bathrooms during class is normal (the ones in the commons are always open). Lots of AP and honors classes, excellent sports teams and clubs, and outstanding test scores. Lots of opportunities for tutoring and extra help. Is it perfect? No--but no school is. My boys were very well prepared for college.Parent Review1mo ago - Union Grove Middle School

"Honestly I don’t see it. They lack a music scene. A mall for starters everything is down town or in the Atlanta section. Needs more scenery in McDonough but the houses are great. One more thing no Amusement Parks are in McDonough that would be great but again I seen a lot of houses and that’s the one thing that is good."
