"Within six months of moving in, I knew everyone I passed on my neighborhood walks! This neighborhood is a hidden gem-- so close to downtown and Duke with tons of walkable restaurants and shops, quiet, tree-lined streets, and friendly neighbors of all ages. "
  • Priscilla
"easy to walk to restaurants and shops large old trees add character to the homes and surroundings grocery stores are nearby"
  • Jessica
"I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 4 years and love it! The neighbors are great, it’s walkable to grocery, restaurants, coffee shops and more, and it’s got a funky vibe."
  • Karen
"I live in the Tuscaloosa Lakewood neighborhood, and have for about 3 years. It is the best neighborhood. I love and know most of my neighbors, and get plenty of random hellos from the ones I don't. We have neighborhood block parties every year. The hilly side streets are perfect for walking or biking and discovering great historic gems. There are plenty of parks nearby, and some of the areas best restaurants within walking distance (Four Square, Foster's, Thai Cafe, Gugelhopf, Q Shack and Nana's). I won't lie, it's a neighborhood that's getting there gradually. There are still thugs and the occassional boarded up house, but overall the neighborhood is filled with old and young, black and white, rich and poor. Duke professors, artists, young families and working class homes all fit in here. Anyone who actually lives here will tell you they'll never leave. "
