I don't know why this site has it so low in grading when there's other schools that don't offer after school, programs, meals, classes for parents, and help for us parents with kids in special needs. Let's not forget counseling .Parent Review8y ago4 Reviews - Hollenbeck Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter was bullied at this school. I already knew she was going to get picked on and tried to get her transferred to a different school FOR SAFETY REASONS, but the assistant principal & school district denied my request. the dean at this school basically blamed my daughter for why she was getting picked on and told me “she never came and told me anything.” she didn’t feel heard, but blamed by him when she did talk to him. my daughters phone number was passed around and she was harassed, she was running home from school scared, same group of girls kept going up to her and one told her “if you have a problem then all three of us can handle it” three girls against my daughter & she was still blamed. I was still told that wasn’t enough for the school to do anything. they do not care about the kids mental health, this school is about numbers. the 7th grade counselor here is also not helpful, when I called to talk to him, he was rude and sounded like he was not interested in the conversation. the principal here also didn’t do anything, the main girl who went up to my daughter and threatened her is family or something of the principal, and funny thing is the next week that little girl jumped a random girl because she wanted to fight someone. my daughter was told that everyone thought she was the one the girl was going to fight. so she was being followed around school waiting for something to happen. my daughter had to have her phone ready to record because she was getting told something everyday. my daughter is no saint, but she would never threaten or fight anyone. she is trying to fit in and get through life as we all did in school, but if you send your kids to this school please be aware of the bullying and gang involvement there is at this school. i’m pretty sure there are other parents who have gone through the same issue here and we’re all denied help for their children. I know plenty of parents around my area who were able to get their kids removed from this school, but we weren’t the lucky ones. my daughter missed weeks of school and is behind on her education because they couldn’t just allow me to transfer her. they didn’t want to help her but blame her.Parent Review4mo ago7 Reviews - Felicitas And Gonzalo Mendez High

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy school is Wesport Heights Elementary School. It's a great school. We just received IPads for our kids and my child is already learning multiplication tables in the 1st grade. What I like about this school is that it focuses on polite speech and treating others like you like to be treated. My child learns about mammals and different kinds of reptiles and experiment by making ice cream. They just make it so fun to learn. "Dog owners would like walking their dogs around the neighborhood as the blocks are big enough for good walking distances and there is a park nearby for dogs to run around and play."

"Easy access to public transportation towards DTLA. No chance of making it to OC or IE with out some difficulty. Being close to DTLA, rush hour traffic isn’t easy to beat."

"Unsafe neighborhood with bad public schools. It’s not wise at all to start or raise a family here. "

"If you can look past the run down nature of the houses. The neighborhood has a lot of character. The people keep to themselves but there are a lot of families that live here. It's pretty quiet except when the Ice cream truck rolls by. "

"There is a lot of grass to walk your dog but there is also a lot of old vegetation that tends to over grow and get stuck to your pet and there is also coyotes here from time to time also a lot of stray cats "

"Lots of people walk their dogs. Very pleasant during the day. Very different story at night! Dog poo seldomly picked up. Close to hiking path trails and parks. Lots of good grocery stores but not sure if they’re pet friendly. I own a cat but I can tell the neighborhood is cohesively shared with mans best friend. I love it here!"

"Lately for these specific apartments it’s not that great. It’s not well protected and I say this because I have witnessed people breaking in (homeless & drug users). Nobody is actually caring enough when we report these issues. "

"I live near sacred heart and griffin elementary. Kids walk to and from school with their families. I also saw a lot of families out on Halloween. On the weekends it’s somewhat common to see kids playing outside. "

"Not the best/safest neighborhood. I enjoy living so close to DTLA & the delicious taco/corn stands, but that's about it. There are no good grocery stores in the area and I can never tell if it's fireworks going off or gunshots. People are really inconsiderate with how loud they are at night, even on week nights. "

"Schools are close by within walking distance. There’s a lot of cultural arts programs in Lincoln Park, from music to dance and art. The area is slowly being gentrified. USC school of medicine and pharmacy is slowly taking over: there are a lot of USC affiliated people moving into the neighborhood."
