Description

PLEASE NOTE: Please familiarize yourself with the area before contacting the owner. These cabins are a work of love. You must show funds before we will show you the cabin. We purchased the cabin 8 years ago - as is - for $50,000 cash. Over the past 8 years we easily spent well over $100,000 refurbishing the cabin and cleaning up the lot. All photos are of the cabin and exact lot. THE CABIN: Forest Service Cabin- rights to the land are leased to cabin owner by the Forest Service (20 year leases in perpetuity) and you will own the structure outright. Cabin 2 is in full compliance all work has been approved Forest Service and taxes are current. Cabin is located in Chantry Flats off the First Water Trail in the Big Santa Anita Canyon which is just outside of Pasadena/Sierra Madre/Arcadia (exit Santa Anita Blvd Exit off 210). No motorized vehicles are permitted in the canyon. The Cabin is only accessible by foot along a 1.25 mile mostly shaded trail along a creek bed. Cabin originally constructed in 1918. Over the past 8 years we painstakingly and meticulously rebuilt it inch by inch. New roof, new floors, new foundation, new walls, new shingles, new wiring, new propane system (supported by 4 aluminum 10 gallon propane tanks), new bathroom etc. - using recycled 100 year old wood. All of the fixtures are originally from the time period and have been sandblasted and refinished. The stove is a fully rebuilt 1923 Glenwood Utility oven (six top burner/propane - oven that is calibrated and a wood burning stove that can be used for heat and/or as a grill). Propane lighting. Running water not from creek - but from an exclusively permitted mountain spring that appears on deed - even when creek is dry the Cabin has water in 400 gallon tank that we installed). Walls & ceilings filled with environmentally friendly Green Foam insulation which also acts as a vapor and bug barrier. Sink in bedroom with hook ups. Tiled Shower in bathroom with cold and hot water room ups. The cabin is wired and propane lines have also been run to either install a hot water heater or a tankless hot water heater. Entire cabin has also been wired for light switches and sockets with specific area built to install a solar battery system (we stopped short of installing the batteries panels but it is all prepped and ready to go). The walls and floors look like they have been there 100 years because we used 100 year old wood. The windows and shutters are all new. New redwood deck overlooking creek and private check damn with trout pond. There is a new storage shed/structure - in addition to a storage shed on top of the cabin and additional storage under deck. Concrete bunker with steel door and lock to used to store cabin valuables (mostly whiskey and anything that can start a fire). There are propane hook ups as well as electrical wiring to install a refrigerator. Cabin comes with a fully refurbished magneto phone to hook into the canyon magneto phone system (works like new except it is 100 years old). Cabin comes with tools and furniture - tools are new the furniture is all from the time period (1915 to 1928). Installed new steps from trail down to cabin all with large river stones pulled up from the creek. This is seriously a beautiful cabin retreat set in the wilderness - very secluded and extremely rare so close to Los Angeles. As previously stated we invested well over $100,000 dollars to ensure the cabin will be here another 100 years. There is no motorized access to this cabin - all materials and over 40,000 pounds of cement were taken in by either men or mule train. Chantry Flats will be closed to the public for 1-2 more years, and owning a cabin is the only way you will be able to enjoy the beauty and seclusion of the area as well as Sturtavent Falls a short distance/ hike from the cabin.

  • Anthony Francis
"A long rich history, and the beautiful architectural homes Excellent school district and shops in different places to eat in down South. Pasadena is a beautiful City to live in"
  • Tawny Y.
"Even though people are good about picking up their dogs’ poo, not everyone is a responsible dog owner. I rarely ever see any leash-less dogs. However, some people claim their dogs are service dogs when they’re out of control. Most places here do not like big dogs in the complexes. "
  • Trulia User
"PASADENA is so friendly and quaint, we love it! It is a very family-first city. There’s no other place we’d wanna be!"
  • Trulia User
"Dogs are not allowed in my apartment building. Maybe a near by apartment allows pets but I rarely see people walking dogs in this area"
  • Trulia User
"All is well… live, love and laughter… thrift stores prove that giving back is everything. I would invite folks from all over California here. "
  • Trulia User
"Friendly/ approachable neighborhoods and neighbors…. Pet friendly Community/ equal opportunity, love and respect 🫡 "
  • Trulia User
"We moved back up here from Newport Beach just before the pandemic. Aside from the lack of ocean, it’s hard to beat this area. There’s something for everyone, whether you love the outdoors or the Old Town vibe. Even though I sell more real estate in other areas, I love living in this one."
  • Trulia User
"Lots of people and their dogs. Walking score high. But. Very busy for sure. Friendly neighbors Lots of restaurants and coffee tea shops "
  • Trulia User
"This is a very walkable community. It is close to Old Town Pasdena and lots of restaurants and shops. It is also close to the Metro train that can take all over Las Angeles. There is also local bus service."

"I’ve lived here for 11 years. Love the walkability, it’s nearby restaurants, parks, and shopping. Very safe. "
  • Naima G.
"This is an absolute amazing neighborhood! It is not the type where your neighbors stay inside all day and never come out, or the type who are always nosy. It is perfect! At night there is no parties going on until like 3:00 or anything! It is quiet and nice, in the morning the birds are tweeting and you see people walking their dogs, biking, or just jogging! I totally recommend this neighborhood!"
  • Michelle K.
"You see people out walking dogs all the time. Friendly neighbors, tree-lined streets, quiet traffic. "
  • Joanna G.
"It’s well-maintained and near shops. It has friendly neighbors and it’s just a great place to live. Quiet at night but active during the day. Runners and dog walkers on the street. Bustling and historic and tree lined. "
  • Dg
"The neighborhood is very conscientious and everyone does their part to take care of the area and to keep it safe."
