Description
I am a sustainability-focused small scale commercial fisherman from Alaska and I am selling the business & lifestyle I have built over the last 7 years. My property is on the Ugashik River in remote Western, Alaska near the town of Pilot Point, Alaska (pop. 69). I fish salmon (king, sockeye, keta, and coho salmon) during the summer and I sell my catch during the winter.
This is much more than an opportunity to fish, this is a business and lifestyle you can seamlessly step into for both fun and profit. "Fish camp," as Alaskans call it, is a wonderful way to raise kids and/or just get away from it all during the summer. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to sustainably earn a living from the land. It has been exactly that for me and my family.
My property consists of 2 cabins (one for living & one for processing salmon), a sauna, a shop and a walk in freezer on 2 acres on the water. My fillet cabin is a state of Alaska and FDA approved facility. My skiff has a 70 hp 4-stroke outboard and I also have a 2-stroke 60 hp backup. My Alaska Limited Entry Setnet Fishing permit also comes with this sale as does my Alaska DNR state lease which is the designated fishing site. This business comes with absolutely everything you need to step in and live, work, play, and make a great seasonal life in the Alaskan wilderness.
We have the largest sockeye salmon run on earth--approx. 65 million sockeye salmon and it’s extremely remote and beautiful. The type of fishing I do here is called Setnetting and it involves fishing near-shore from small boats with short nets. This area is managed extremely well and most people consider it the most sustainable and well managed fishery in Alaska, making it the most sustainable fishery on earth. Setnetting is one of the few fisheries that’s family friendly since you are shore based with cabins and plenty of space.
This is a turn-key business with multiple revenue streams. I have years of profit records. Markets for your catch come with the sale and, assuming you put in some work, you will be profitability on year one. This is also a turn key lifestyle with everything you need right here––fishing gear, parts, boats, tools, salmon processing equipment, a shop full of equipment and supplies, a cabin with bedding, food, and everything you need to step right in fish for the summer. Spring 2017 I can fly out with you and teach you everything and get you setup. I am selling because my wife is a career academic and changes in her career have made it impractical for us to continue fishing in such a remote place.
In addition to the business of fishing, this area is remote and lovely like no other. Tundra extends 50 miles to the Aleutian range where smoking volcanoes clad in glaciers stretch horizon to horizon. There are epic 4-wheeler trips on the nearly endless beaches where you find walrus tusks (ivory), old Japanese glass fishing floats, and all other interesting things that wash up. Or you can explore the 3 major rivers that join here at my cabin. We love boating upriver to the Ugashik Lakes surrounded by mountains with crystal clear water and brown bears everywhere. We camp on blueberry & flower covered islands & hike or sport fish.
To learn more about my business and property, you can look at my former salmon sales business (just sold in the last few months) Cold Country Salmon (www.coldcountrysalmon.com) and the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/coldcountrysalmon/photos) which tell the story of my lifestyle and business for about 5 years (the newest photos reflect the new owner, who is a friend). And my new business, Salmon & Sable (www.salmonandsable.com) and the facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/salmonandsable/photos). Virtually all of the pictures on both are of my fish camp (for sale here) and of myself and my family.
Talk to you soon,
Traveler, Nicole, and Cedar
