Description
This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from January 08, 2024
This beautifully restored shingle-style mansion on Kingston's historic West Chestnut Street is one of only two remaining buildings attributed to British-American architect Calvert Vaux (Frederic Church's Olana estate and Manhattan's Central Park) still standing in Ulster County. Set back from the street on 2.47 park-like acres, with dramatic views of both the Hudson River and the church spires of the Kingston Rondout, the house harkens back to the 19th and early 20th centuries when notable Hudson Valley titans called West Chestnut Street home, and still features virtually all of its original architectural splendor, including elaborate and never-painted mahogany paneling and spindle work, patterned hardwood floors, two formal dining rooms plus side-by-side river-view parlors with carved marble fireplaces. The irreplaceable charm has now been supplemented by a grand screened porch floored in bluestone, a large two-level carriage house with space for three cars, state-of-the-art HVAC systems, plus an in-ground pool with cabana on a bluestone terrace tailor-made for epic entertaining. Bathrooms and bedrooms on multiple levels offer easy flexibility for a variety of needs. Only two hours by car from NYC, and a quick walk to the shops, restaurants and boat launches of the Kingston Rondout, this property fully honors a unique architectural legacy while also offering all the best features of modern luxury living.

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI couldn't ask for a better school for my children. At this point my children have had 5 - 6 different teachers and they have all been exceptional. Edson has provided an excellent foundation for my children.Parent Review1y ago - J Watson Bailey Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI can't say enough positive things about J Watson Bailey. When we first moved to the Hudson Valley we sent our daughter to a private school. After two years there we all decided that it was time to make a change to the public school system. Our daughter is a creative and we were wanting more than just an academic focus, but more of a well rounded experience. The first day she came home, she said, "Mom this was the right choice". The school has some of the most invested teachers I have come across, has ample extracurriculars (art, chorus, band, sports, theater, afterschool clubs, etc), the curriculum is exciting and our daughter is eager to learn, the principal is super engaged with the community, the student base is diverse, anytime we have a question or concern, we are answered immediately - I could go on and on. I am not sure why this school gets such low marks, but I wanted to be a positive voice for this school and our experience. So grateful we made the decision to send our daughter here, she is thriving. Thank you J Watson Bailey!Parent Review2mo ago - Kingston High School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is a 2017 graduate. He graduated in top ten of the graduating class. He was captain of crew team. All honors and AP. Started the robotics club and got accepted to almost every ivy and top tier college he applied to. My point? If your kid has been taught the correct priorities and wants to succeed he or she will get a top notch education. If they don’t have support from their parents and taught the importance of education they will end up doing drugs sitting on Broadway wall. Get involved in your own child’s curriculum. Teachers can’t do it all even teachers as devoted as those at KHS.Parent Review6y ago - Check out schools near 194 W Chestnut Street.
