  • Trulia User
"Lots of people walk their dogs. Wide streets with sidewalks. People are friendly…………dog parks available "
  • Trulia User
"Many neighborly parties and events, good area for trick or treating. Calm, quiet, cozy. Most neighbors have known each other for 20+ years. "
  • Rania
"I’ve lived here for 5 years. It’s quiet and has an old Austin charm without a lot of new high rises and gimmicky shops. "
  • Dormand M.
"It’s a cool place I like it. Come live here. Good neighborhood. Won’t regret it. Walk score real low but cool dogs everywhere"
  • Jwalksalot
"I live in it!!! also they have a great hiking trail alongside the train tracks. I've been in this neck of the woods for years and wouldn't go anywhere else!"
  • Merry f.
"small secluded neighborhood in a good location. Garrison Park within walking distance. Crockett High School is walking distance. "
  • Merry f.
"Established old south Austin neighborhood with beautiful oak trees. Friendly neighbors, beautiful flowers, dog friendly."
  • Parisah T.
"Laid-back/chill vibe, away from the hectic, busy downtown scene. Close to grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, schools, and parks/green spaces - great & convenient location with quick access to highways. The demographics here are also pretty diverse, so it's easy to feel comfortable and at home. "
  • Frostyis
"The best of it all! Quiet, close downtown and airport. Safe with friendly folks and loads of trees."
  • Nancybarclay
"I’ve lived in this Neighborhood from 1961 to 1971 then from 2002 to present. We have large lots and eclectic neighbors and it is a very trendy south Austin Neighborhood"
  • Tierra D.
"It is very dog friendly! Almost everyone is out walking their dogs, and it's nice. I would say there are a few strays in the area."
  • Shannon M.
"There isn't a lot of green space in the area. Traffic moves fast, and the shoulders on the road are non-existent. I don't feel safe walking my dog along the busy streets, nor is it even enjoyable."
  • Gabriella A.
"It is close to parks, and most areas have sidewalks and easy-to-maneuver crosswalks."
  • Shelly E.
"You can walk to a lot of places, and there's also a bus route. Be ready for traffic morning and late afternoon. There are lots of schools nearby, so a lot of stoplights. We have good access to the interstates and highways, so that's helpful if you work down south."
  • Shannon M.
"Manchaca has gotten very busy in the last few years. Many people use it as a cut-through neighborhood to avoid traffic and get downtown. There aren't a lot of lights, so people drive way too fast in the area. Left turns are a nightmare."
  • Gabriella A.
"Traffic isn't bad if you're staying in the area. Most intersections are regulated with traffic lights."
  • Gabriella A.
"The farmers' market is close. I like getting to know community members and the people who are providing food to the community."
  • Gabriella
"It has a diverse community and a variety of restaurants, stores, and activities. Its easy accessibility to all is what is really great."
  • Clifton D.
"It's closer to San Antonio than many other Austin neighborhoods. South Manchaca has lots of high quality donut stores, and South Park is a nice shopping area."
  • Shannon M.
"Recently a lot of local shops have moved to the area between Ben White and Lamar. There are also great restaurants and laid-back bars that you can easily walk to."
  • Tierra D.
"The neighborhood is getting worse. I feel like there are a lot more young teenagers walking around with no real purpose. It doesn't feel safe to be walking around late at night."
  • Shelly E.
"It's mostly families who live down here. We have lots of schools and many parks nearby you can walk to with no problems. I love the decorations in the neighborhood for Halloween and Christmas. The annual Easter egg hunt is really fun for the kids too. We're always looking to do things for small kiddos."
  • Shannon M.
"I would not recommend this area for families. Cars drive too fast, and shoulders on the sidewalks are non-existent, which means a distracted driver could easily jump the curb and hit a person. There also isn't a lot of green space or parks for kids to play in."
  • virginia s.
"I live here and feel like it is an oasis. There is neighborhood pride and lots of people out walking and being friendly. There are lots of trees and I feel safe here."
  • Kathy K.
"I have been a resident of this neighborhood for over 30 years. It is safe, quiet and well-established. The location is great, with access to Ben White, Mopac, I-35 and South First is a straight run into downtown. There are two bus stops within a block. The house is located in between Central Market and Southpark Meadows and four movie theaters are 5 minutes away."
