The communities at Wamsutta Preservation are located in the historic Acushnet Heights neighborhood of New Bedford. The apartments were originally built in the 1870's as worker housing for the Wamsutta Mills.

Since then, the ownership of the mill housing has fragmented the apartments into 4 sub-communities: Wamsutta Apartments, Austin Court Apartments, Hazard Court Apartments and State Street Apartments.

In an effort to stabilize the historic Acushnet Heights, renovation of the 144 apartment home community began in 1999 and ended in 2002 creating quality affordable housing.

The communities are conveniently located near the bus route, Clasky Common Park, and within walking distance to the many downtown New Bedford businesses, shops and restaurants. The Wamsutta Communities are minutes away from I-195.

Each community features on-site management, 24-hour emergency maintenance, on-site laundry facilities and fully applianced kitchens. The Wamsutta Apartments are pet friendly and rent includes all utilities, Austin Court is comprised of 2-level townhouses, Hazard Court includes heat, and State Street has an open courtyard with playground area.

Additionally, a German Shepherd frequently barks for hours, which could be a concern for those sensitive to noise."

When we got back in our car, we first saw an argument between a man and a woman who was irate in front of us, then the man approached our car to ask if we had been filming her. This is not a safe area and I would not live here. "

There also a great pick of churches to pick from and food market from Save a lot to Shaw’s If your plant lover we have outside shops and plant shops downtown Newbedford. Also the night life downtown has really improved your going to find really nice restaurant that play live music a great place have a date or happy hours!!!😊"

    "I think people would have respect seeing any Person walking their dog but some people don’t like when owners don’t clean up after their pets. And there’s a lot of people who are really nosy and sometimes it can be really disturbing and the fact that you can’t even trust the neighborhood, like letting your kids play outside it’s not how it used to be !"

    "In order to walk safely in this area since there are no sidewalks you’ll need to walk along the front of your neighbors yards. They would rather you walk in the street and risk getting killed unless of course you’re a member of their family. Other then that you can trespass on many of the open lots that are filled with ticks. I found five in three weeks on my dog from just one visit to one of these empty lots"
