10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDavis High is a great school with great teachers. My son is a senior and has had a great experience. Competition is pretty high as the town (Davis) is a small community with a very large University of California campus, and thus is filled with parents who have advanced degrees and very high academic standards. I suspect academically weaker students will feel this, but on the other hand academically talented students will have the opportunity to excel. If your child is not academically strong (or at least average) they may be best served by other alternatives in Davis (Da Vinci High), a private school, or in nearby high schools.Parent Review2y ago7 Reviews - Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am currently a 8th grader at Holmes and most of my experiences here have been absolutely wonderful. The teachers here are always engaged in teaching and they go out and beyond in ensuring students learn successfully.A few teachers that deserve recognition are Ms. Caves,Mrs. Tibbetts,Mr. Nush,Mrs. Pegg and Mrs. Broaddus.Especially Mrs. Broaddusshe is a perfect example of what a teacher should be.She always teaches students stuff that is useful and helpful, and is always attentive and willing to listen to her students voices.Mrs. Pegg is always so happy and kind and never shows her bad moods to us.She treats each and every one of us equally and she never favors or dislikes students. The food here is good too. There are a few negative parts about this school though. The mental health system here is very backwards.I recently got out of speech after 2 years.Mrs. Debow and Mrs. Addy are so kind and understanding to the students that they serve.Unfortunately, still the system is bad.The only things that happened in mental health were pretty much breathing exercises and one on one talking. It was a useless waste of time.Unfortunately, this school does not do a lot about bullying. There is anonymous Form to fill out to report such, but I never heard back after doing so.Also, the orchestra teacher at this school has been truly disrespectful to his students,he also has used school funds for his personal use.Student Review6mo ago14 Reviews - Check out schools near 1805 E 8th St.

"People in the area walk their dogs on the sidewalks and seem welcome. Due to the large number of apartments in the area dog ownership skews heavily towards the smaller side it seems."

"lots of grass for dogs to poop and pee. however, this area is extremely expensive. so, if you want to live here, you probably can't afford to have a dog. You'll probably barely be able to take care of yourself. good luck! we're all doomed here in California. "

"Fabulous old neighborhood that will be turning over very soon. Many houses are getting renovated and put up for sale. Careful of where you buy though. Certain neighborhoods have access to pools and gyms and some do not. Make sure you decide carefully"

"Neighbors meet in the cul de sac on Thursday nights to visit. Everyone brings their own chair and preferred beverage. We actually really like each other. Occasionally we will put up a big screen and watch a movie outside. "

"Good city just too expensive. You get what you paid for. If you hate driving and like riding bikes it’s perfect. If you like to drive you’re going to hate all the bike lanes."

"It is a wonderful community. People enjoy exercise, walking their pets, and playing in the parks. We have a wonderful place where fruits grow, but if you pick the fruits, people will yell at you. Keep in mind many of the fruits lie wasted on the ground. "
