Description

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom Carriage House

This is a Carriage House! So-called because the home has both a downstairs and upstairs area (bedroom and deck above the garage in this case). It is a common way homes were built in England and New England to better accommodate and keep carriages and its people safe! The Carriage House has decks with ocean and redwood forest views. There is also a garden deck and a deck looking into the forest. And as you can see, it snows here as well!
There are lots of pretty walking paths in the forest and nearby mountain bike trails. Waterfalls and streams are around us most of the year. There is a little country grocery store close by, Summit Store, with a friendly down home and helpful atmosphere. Groceries and sundries are right here in a modern convenience store. They have delicious meals prepared for you, and they have fresh sushi made while you watch!
The Carriage House is located in Los Gatos in the Santa Cruz Mountains within a half mile from Highway 17, off Summit Road. Our Road goes through groves of several very large redwood trees. This Road is a quiet country lane with views of the ocean and from the Carriage House as well. You can check to see how sunny the beaches are before venturing to Santa Cruz, 20 minutes away with its famous Boardwalk and restaurants. On the city side to San Jose, the travel time is less than 20 minutes to the Airport and to San Jose downtown center. Scott's Valley is a friendly little town 8 minutes away and it's where my wife and I go to watch movies! Redwood Estates, a little village that is about 5 minutes away has a new fire department, a post office and a great Pizza restaurant. We also have a fire department on our Road 400 feet away.
Regale Vineyards, a beautiful Italianate castle and gardens are only a few minutes away, a must see treasure! There are more than 12 other vineyards in the area.
The Carriage House itself is designed with a 1.5 car garage for storage and has built-in cabinetry. You enter through a large kitchen with tile flooring, a window looking out to an orchard and toward the forest and the Pacific. The living room has high ceilings and is two steps down from the kitchen. It also has forest views. The bathroom has a high ceiling and very roomy shower and ready area, with a private toilet water closet.
The upstairs bedroom has built-for-two closet, a window door to the upstairs deck, and a built-in drawer cabinet. The upstairs deck also looks out to the Pacific. The entire downstairs is heated by in-floor heating, so no dust from dirty filters or lung drying air. Nothing better than nice cozy warm feet in the winter! And low utility bills (we are on solar). Here, we pump our own water from a 280 foot deep pristine spring and the air is always fresh and sweet up here on our 3 acres.

"We love living here. There are Lots of families, great schools and a nice sense of community. There are nice parks, a great farmers market abcs lots of community events. "
  • Trebryan
"I live in downtown so there are events all the time like Music in the Park and Jazz in the Plaz. Halloween up in Johnson where my best friend lives is something special. "
  • Jane R.
"The shared sense of pride in our beloved town, from its small town humble beginnings to its explosion during the dot com boom. Despite the rapid growth, which has brought amazing new businesses, events, and community events, Los Gatos still maintains that small town feel and still holds its traditional events and many of the same restaurants that I grew up going to. There are tons of block parties, community events and classes, garage/estate sales, and just a great vibe downtown, especially during the summer and any given Sunday at the coffee roaster and farmers market. During the summer months - Music in the park on Sunday evenings and jazz in the Plaz on Wednesdays Tons of walking/running, biking and hiking trails and we are 20 minute drive to downtown Santa Cruz and the boardwalk"
  • Trebryan
"It’s a beautiful town nestled up on the Santa Cruz Mountains. A great downtown with an old movie theater and great restaurants. The one big downside is all the beach traffic in summer weekends but it’s so walkable just leave your car behind those 13 weekends a year and walk or bike. "
  • Trulia User
"We do cool stuff and go on walks to the creeks and feed our dogs they get fat but we give them walks and no more snacks they store energy very well then they get the zoomies and take off running"
  • Trulia User
"Good access to freeways, though not immediate. Close enough to centers of work and the airport, but far enough away not to feel congested. Light traffic. "
  • Trulia User
"Great neighborhood, especially for young families. Neighbors get to know each other. Great local parks nearby as well. "
  • H_labe
"I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 27 years, people are friendly, diverse, and well educated. There’s an abundance of hiking and biking trails, great schools and a wonderful walkable downtown shopping and dinning area. "
  • Priscilla G.
"There are a lot of well trained dogs. Most owners are responsible about waste pick up. Plenty of nearby parks. "
  • Cate L.
"I own a dog and the other dog owners seem very friendly. There are however not a lot of dog parks. So you have to drive to them."
  • Jose L. P.

"Lots of kids. Safe here. Excellent schools. Just a great town. But this is not like some cities where it’s all about academics. This town values sports and hobbies along with academics. "
  • Nick K.
"There are signs up everywhere that dogs are not allowed but everyone ignores them. I’m not sure what the town has against dogs, but the actual people are dog friendly. "
  • Michael.valentine

"Not bad if you leave at non peak times. At peak can be 45 min to Santa Clara. Summertime beach traffic"
  • Carrieanndean
"Great schools, great community - super small town feel. Very beautiful downtown. My kids ride their bikes to and from school every day - amazingly special perk. "
  • Daveend78
"Constant driving. Morning and afternoon traffic can insanely bad and quite annoying. More and more people move here with due to more real estate developments so traffic is ever increasing."
  • Cillag26
"Great for both starter and long term families. The type of place people raise their children long term. Consistent, strong sense of community, people look out for one another. "
  • Jt69cam
"It’s full of a bunch of elitist jerks. It used to be a wonderful small community with giving and caring people. It’s just a bunch of rich snobs"
  • Jt69cam
"Absolutely hideous. The drivers around here are rude and a bunch of jerks. It’s just going to get worse. The town has gone downhill with a bunch of elitist snob’s"
  • Stanley A.
"Easy freeway access for a quick commute if there is an early departure. Otherwise the traffic can be challenging. "
  • Karinadance
"It’s quiet, green, safe and friendly. Schools are great and there’s police visiting all areas often."
