Honestly, I had my child go here one year for their freshman year and took them out. There is no actual support in helping your child succeed unless they’re naturally gifted. IEP program not available at all and only met her once towards the end of the school year. They put no effort whatsoever towards sports. I would not give their 8/10 greatschool score any reason to have your child go here. They’re also a lot of fights here.

Disclaimer: I notice that there hasn't been a lot of reviews for this school, and past comments are either out of date and/or do not represent how I feel about the school. I have two kids that currently attend Northrup Elementary, and both are in the dual immersion (DI) Mandarin language program. Note: Northrup Elementary is the only school in the Alhambra Unified School District that provides the Mandarin dual immersion program. With that said, the school provides K-8 education to both DI and Non-DI students. Although the classrooms do not mix, they do share common areas and represent Northrup as a whole. Both of my kids have enjoyed their educational experience at Northrup. Teachers, staff, and administration are caring and communicate frequently to parents through email and weekly phone/voice mail updates. Now to the nitty gritty to what parents want to read when they are on a site like Great Schools.org. 1. Test Scores - Do I wish that test scores were higher for this school? Of course, however, it has improved each year since the DI program transitioned over to this school back on 21/22. The influx of DI students (at least to me) has improved the overall test scores for the school. 2. Grounds - Overall the grounds are clean but can be better. The school does have a big open field, but it's not highlighted because it's just a large grass field. I would like to see a baseball diamond and/or soccer/football stripes so that students can enjoy it during recess. Their basketball courts are outdated; I would like them to partner with the Lakers or Clippers to install new courts and lines. 3. Buildings - They do have a small auditorium which can only accommodate a handful of students and audiences. Many of their ceremonies are held outside due to the size of the auditorium. 4. Parking/drop-off - Northrup is on a major street (Atlantic); so, drop-offs and parking can be difficult. Ideally, the school District should rent out the car dealership next door for parent/staff parking. Overall, this is a good school (not great and most definitely not bad). At minimum, I would recommend this school for parents interested in the Mandarin Dual Immersion program. Cheers.
