Description
This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from March 12, 2024
An incredibly rare find! Licensed, income-producing vacation rental, boasting a 11-year, 5-star track record and sold turnkey as a home or business. Hawaii county’s limited STVR licensing of this area ceased in 2019, so your license is one of the finite few benefiting from the year-round booking stream of this popular location. Gently elevated, the home is nestled peacefully in a clearing, surrounded by lush rainforest and the soothing sounds of nature. Gated, and set-back from the street, with a private palm-lined driveway for ultimate privacy, this is a well-designed retreat that has been thoughtfully constructed with master craftsmanship throughout. From the comfortable lanai, enter through french doors into a warm greeting of locally-harvested hardwood flooring underfoot, and brilliant natural light from the large windows in every room. The home’s open-concept design, cooled by the breezy trade-winds, welcomes easy gatherings for family and friends. The kitchen features ample work space, ceramic tile floors, and lots of cabinet/pantry storage. The abundant warmth of the entire living space instantly feels like home. At one end of the open hallway with it's large closets, a full bath opens adjacent to a large bedroom; at the other end is the sizable, sunlit primary suite with a bay window, an airy walk-in closet, ensuite full bath and slider door to the lanai. The covered carport houses a convenient laundry room and ample space for additional parking on the expansive gravel driveway, and lots of surrounding green space to enjoy life in the warm Hawaii sun! Features include: *10k gal catchment tank, UV/sediment filters *New solar hot water panels *Secure under-house storage *Fiber optic internet/TV *Temperate microclimate *Lava Zone 3, Flood X *Dense native forest historically slows high winds *Easy drive to Volcano, Hilo, Pahoa & Keaau Leaseback of undeveloped land for a discount on sales price.

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy concern is the bullying, especially by other students as well as unqualified teachers and aides who are not equipped to properly handle the special needs student.I served as a school crossing guard for eight years after I retired, and it was always the special needs child that was made fun of, and bullied. Schools need to protect these special students. It can't happen a minute too soon.Wilma LewisI hope this is at the top of the agenda.Other Review8y ago - Anuenue School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile I am grateful to have graduated from high school, I can't say I'm proud to have graduated from this one. My experience at Keaau High involved frequent exposure to schoolyard brawls, administrative apathy, and laughable courses.I took a woodworks class in which the teacher was so lenient that we spent most of the time cleaning the woodshop, and I learned nothing from that class. I once got harassed by that class' students so severely that I transferred to an art class.I remember how defiant students smeared the bathroom walls with graffiti, and I can't recall the school ever removing the unsightly "art." Not to mention that the school cranked the AC to an intensely high level.I liked a few teachers at that school, a couple of whom I still contact from time to time. But most teachers at the time were either too ineffective or too indifferent for me to remember fondly.Primarily, I felt like Keaau High didn't challenge its students enough and didn't do enough to allow students to be more pro-social.Given that my experience was back in the 00s, a lot has likely changed. I sure hope so, because I wouldn't want a child going to that school if it is still anything like it was back then!Parent Review1y ago - Ke Kula O Ehunuikaimalino

"Family orientated. Healthy food growing everywhere. Country but close to town. Beautiful community. "

"I love the friendly atmosphere and lovely environment. I would like to see more local businesses with a strong community presence, and bigger retailers supporting those local businesses. Hilo is a town that's filled with loving people that are incredibly family oriented. Families are busy but that doesn't mean they aren't always willing to help out a stranger."

"Its a friendly neighborhood but just like any other place still gotta watch your kids. Its some what walking distance to places depending on what part keaau you live."

"The community is good. It’s fairly safe. The dogs in this area need to be chained. Many people have gotten hurt. But! I really love how big each property is and how quiet and peaceful it is. I love the privacy and how each individual has their own space."

"Plenty place for the dogs to play and run. However other people don’t put their dogs on leashes and just let them roam freely. Other wise it is a awesome place to live and have animals."

"There are lots of dogs; many of which are not chained up and can be quite vicious. On paved roads, people drive quickly and sometimes recklessly. "

"Quiet, away from the city, private. Friendly neighbors. Dog friendly. Gravel roads. Close to the volcanic eruption to see its beauty, but far enough that it is not affected."
