About this House
Adjacent to Cheyenne’s newest Elementary School, Alta Vista, the home's floor to ceiling mullioned picture window has a fine view of the nicely landscaped school grounds. The YMCA is a quick 3 block walk and adjacent Holliday Park’s many amenities – tennis, playground, basketball, horseshoes, walking paths, waterfowl – and of course “Big Boy”! - are available year round.
A large archway joins the oversize living room with the dining area and kitchen creating a wonderful sense of space in this sturdy 1938 structure. Built-in cabinetry in the hall, a large “beer cellar” in the basement, lots of stairwell storage (up and down) and kitchen cabinets galore make it easy to stow your stuff. A non-conforming bedroom in the basement (Knotty-Pine closets and drawers!), full bath with bright tiling, and new Champion windows with custom wood trim makes a cozy home office or teenager hangout. Two other fully finished basement rooms are sized for hobbies or a home theater area!
The small “back bedroom” upstairs has a finished oak floor and two of the original large grained pine doors in the “master” bedroom have been refinished. Though now carpeted, there are oak floors throughout the upstairs. The upstairs bathroom was updated subfloor to ceiling, stud to stud, in 2009.
The automated sprinkler system keeps the grass and flower beds green without hoses and the low –flow heads are environmentally friendly. The privacy-fenced back yard kept our small dog safe and the yard is a great length for Frisbee chasing. We hung hammocks and grilled under the covered patio and enjoyed winter parties with friends around the built-in fire pit (while it was blazing, of course. The oversized garage has a matching oversize door to get a tall vehicle in, and a couple loft spaces for LOTS of storage. For those wood-guys, the garage has a woodstove to burn your scrap lumber and keep you toasty while you’re creating it!!
In summer, the large Swamp Cooler keeps you cool at night without the cost of air conditioning (Cheyenne’s great that way). There are so many other little niceties about this place, we regret having to leave it avoid 2 -2 hour commutes.
