"Commute is great. Many access points to various surrounding cities. You can be in Suffolk, Virginia Beach, or Newport News in about twenty minutes and to Norfolk in about ten."
  • Hellomayann
"I used to live in this area and I could say that it is safe. The only thing that might bother you, is if you live close by the train tracks, train can be noisy and most of the time, ambulance & cop cars pass by portlock road."
  • Shirleecamaquin
"Nice sometimes quiet. Area is about a 10-15 driving distance from a lot of places. Nice community. Beautiful Victorian houses."
  • C. Deane
"There are many schools in the neighborhood, for various age ranges. The area around Freeman Ave is very quiet, and subdued. It's a very nice place to live. "
  • Trulia User
"We have neighborhood activities. We have soup kitchens for those in need. We have recreational centers. We have a neighborhood library. We have little businesses with amazing food and shops to buy things in"

"Not a good place to raise kids. Schools are biases and only a handful of teacher actually care about their job as a teacher. "
  • Luniquesutton

  • Catherine E.
" I love animal lovers animals outside being walked played with by owners like to have a dog park so you could walk your dogs are they can play "

"I used to live in this area, 4 years. I can’t complain very nice community. I would recommend this area to anyone."
  • Jess S.
"Was a little worried when I first moved into south Norfolk but I have really enjoyed the neighborhood so far. I feel comfortable walking my dog, there is a nice park near by, and my neighbor is so nice and friendly. There is a neighborhood watch group which makes me feel at ease but I have had zero problems or have felt uncomfortable even walking my dog at night. Street lights could be better but not bad. There is a dollar general within walking if I need something quick and the library is VERY nice. I like it here!"
  • Cheyenne r.
"A great neighborhood. A lot of foot traffic but very friendly ! I would recommend this neighborhood to anyone considering it!"
  • Mdblowe
"I’ve live in this neighborhood for years and it continues to be a loving home for my family and I. We feel warm and safe having created a home here. "
  • Shemeka D.
"It's becoming more up and modern. Cleaning up the streets. More of an older crowd lives in the area. Love the older homes look on the outside but open living space on the inside. I believe the schools could be better but they are pretty decent. "
  • Vaqarrie20
"I lived in the neighborhood for 2 years and the folks are awesome people to live near. The traffic isn’t bad at all, and it’s a safe neighborhood."
  • Jorell H.
"I love this neighborhood, I know almost my entire block. everyone is very friendly and they all have barbeques all the time. we are all very close, and being that I am in the military its hard to say goodbye, however gotta stay on the move. beautiful homes inside and out! your family would love it here too! "
  • Ucylis
"This place is second to none, one of the best places for young children to grow up in, on top of the fact that the majority of families that live here are young families with young children some as young as 6-10 and therer are some older teens living in this area, given that people are not bias in their judgments in regards to this neighborhood nor are racist towards that people of other cultures and races and ethnicities this is a great community! whom ever chooses to live here has to know how well kept these homes are in this neighborhood, the people are friendly their children can be rowdy like any child in any neighborhood but I know all of my neighbors by name and we always have gotten along, and it's like a big huge family If you have kids this is definitely a place where you can expect your children will never be bored, there is lots of things to do here. and plenty of shopping centers all around and literally you have access to almost every highway that goes to almost every city withing a ten mile radius."
