For the first time in 40 years, one of Tryon's historic treasures is on the market. Enjoyed by one family since the 1980s, "Grey Logs" was built in the Dark Corner of Greenville County before the Civil War by S.C. Gov. Perry as a summer place. In the 1930s, Ms. Lowe moved it log by log, stone by stone, 2 miles to a knoll on Piney Mountain in the Overlook section of Gillette Woods. When the leaves are off, Tryon's lights twinkle in the distance to the east, and the peaks of Melrose and Rocky Spur appear to the west. Grey Logs features include: hand-hewn, chestnut logs 20 inches wide; five fireplaces; a 14-foot wide covered stone terrace; cathedral ceilings in the bedrooms upstairs supported by round pine sapling poles; yellow pine floors throughout. This home has been well cared for, pampered! All electric, plumbing, lighting updated in 2006, new roof 2010. Living room, bunk room chimney lined. New high-effic. Lenox AC unit. All ready for a new family and new set of lasting memories!

As such, most homeowners are not considered part of a community - and tend to celebrate or socialize with friends either from church or from the local horse community. "

    "Lived in tryon for some time. I moved back north. Not a very friendly community. Best if you have strong ties here. People originally from around this area feel as if people moving here is not good for them. Poor economy. Businesses constantly failing. And it is true there is an alcohol problem as many people are bored and unhappy in tryon especially people under 50 or so. Not a good place for children. This town should also be red flagged as a gang stalking community. Ideal for retirees who don't go out much."
