I have a third grader and first grader at BPE. We’ve been at BPE for 3 years. The teachers are engaged, welcoming, proactive, supportive. The social emotional curriculum (how to have a growth mindset, engender respect / kindness, conflict resolution) is integrated and strong. BPE has a full-time counselor who is engaged and proactive. My son has ASD and has a 504 plan, which is supported by his teachers and school counselor. BPE has an excellent, innovative, kind principal since 2023. Families and parents are so engaged, friendly, and work hard to make BPE a welcoming, fun community.

We looked at other schools nearby. I’m really glad we chose Clairemont. The small school size gives a real community feeling. The academies are a unique approach. They are really just a focus for electives but the cohort setup allows the kids to build closer bonds with each other and make friends they might not have in other environments. My daughter was worried because most her friends were in a different academy. She has maintained those friendships but built so many new ones too. The administration is also wonderful. The principal is very responsive and caring.

My son has attended and it's been a positive experience. Middle school is not perfect, nor easy on kids. I heard of some kids that caused trouble or a fight here and there but nothing that ever came close to my son. I also made sure my son came home after school as most problems are from kids unaccounted for hanging out at local retail establishments. I stayed connected with all of his teachers and was impressed by most of them. You'll get that anywhere. The communication from the school was always good and the extracurricular sports programs are a plus.
