Have 5 kids in the Lake central school system and absolutely love it

Honestly, this place was a disaster. The building itself looked like it hadn't been updated since the '70s, and not in a cool, retro way. Think peeling paint and questionable smells wafting from the cafeteria.The teachers? Some were okay, but others seemed like they were just counting down the minutes until retirement. And don't even get me started on the cliques. If you weren't wearing the right brand of sneakers, good luck finding a lunch table.The only good thing about this school was leaving it behind. Seriously, do yourself a favor and explore other options. Your sanity will thank you.

My child's teacher was awesome. She was funny, personable and showed she cared about her students. She was always really friendly and opened to address any concerns in a positive manner. There's a lot of fundraising and book fairs all year, which for me is fine but needs to diversify in their fundraising. There's only so many book fairs and pencil sales we can collect until we collect them all. The principal is awesome. She is friendly and always at the events. She shows us parents, she cares for the students and takes pride in her staff. I took a star down because my child would come home and have melt downs every day and I couldn't figure out why. That was until I found out the bus driver was picking on him and making him sit in the front of the bus by himself. I can guarantee you my child is not the troublemaker here and doesn't deserve to be secluded from the rest of the kids. There are other kids screaming, throwing things out the windows and at each other yet they never get moved. And when I addressed some issues with her, she brushed it off and didn't give me any good explanations. She also often tells our neighbor about all the pain meds she's on for her leg pain. I think she needs to retire because it's no joking matter to me if she's on strong pain killers while driving the kids. It's not ok for adults to bully kids or take their pain out on the kids. Another thing is the kids are really loud and disruptive in class. It's almost as if there is no control over the kids and the loudness becomes a distraction for the kids who are actually trying to learn. This has been brought to my attention from other parents also, that while the kids are in the classrooms, there are constant distractions not being addressed. There lacks a focus on mindfulness or meditation with the kids. It feels important for the kids to have strategies and methods to help them "de-stress" and calm down in stressful or loud situations as part of their emotional well-being. Or find a better way to support those students who are distracted and can't control themselves. They focus a lot on their academics and there's always homework even in the lower-level grades. There's a lot of parent involvement all the time. I wish they would expand on their language and offer a class or a curriculum in another language. The more languages a person knows is a testament to the human capacity for learning and adaptation. Which we all want our kids to have the best education and to excel.
