We absolutely love this school. Our daughter is starting her 3rd year here

The school has 3 principals and 2 or more vice principals. But. They yell at us during recess and lunch, and, there was a storm, they didn’t cancel school but they said they’re worried for our safety? No, they just care about our behavior and grades and participation and our attendance, not to mention, another storm is coming up, round 3 by the way. And if they don’t cancel school, I’m actually gonna stop believing in their words because I, and other students are tired of this, the school expects us to, one, wear our uniforms all day all the time everyday, two, be at school everyday and have PERFECT attendance, three, get not good, but ALL A’s and B’s and they reward people who have high grades with a trip to a movie or something, while the people who don’t, have to stay in their classes, and learn without getting a break, and if I remember correctly, one time, the principal said if she sees a single phone out during school hours, she will take them for the rest of the school year. How unfair is that to us? Plus the excuses for missing school is either Sick or you have an Appointment. And when we have a dead computer, “why didn’t you charge it when you were home?” What if they couldn’t? No uniform on, “why didn’t you wear your uniform?” Maybe because they can’t wash it because their washing machine is broken? What if they were rushing to school that they forgot to wear it and just wore the thing closest to them? “Why are you late?” Oh I don’t know, maybe because their last class before yours was all the way on the other side of campus? Let me get one thing straight. We’re drained. Tired. Exhausted. Band concerts, practice, homework, missing work, got yelled at for something that you didn’t even do, a test, exam, you have things going on at home, you missed your bus because you were all the way down while the bus was all the way up, getting bullied, you woke up late because the night before you were finishing a project and stayed up all night. Don’t you dare call us lazy. Because we’re not. We’re drained, emotionally, physically, and mentally. Our sleep schedule is messed up, our mental health is messed up, we have so much missing work, and projects and upcoming tests. We’re not lazy, we just need time.

I was a Four Year Boarder at Lahainaluna. I graduated in 2009 with academic honors. I am now attending the University of Montana with academic scholarships. No other school can even come close to Lahainaluna and the tradition that we hold. I came to Lahainaluna at the age of 13 from the Big Island, to become a part of the Boarding Dept. I wouldn't trade my experiances for anything. I became a better person and can now be a contributing citizen to not only the communities of Hawaii, but to the communities of the enitre world.

This school is great, clean, close by.
