If you really have to try to pass chances are the teachers will be lenient on you and you won't learn a thing. To learn here, you have to want to. The school is very clique-y in an non-cliched way and fights are common. The dress code is ridiculous, boys can't have facial hair, girls can't wear shorts. A punishment for showing up to school with a mustache--dry shaving in the office. If a teacher sees a cellphone it will be taken away. Body piercings and tattoos are a no-no. You will get sent home for a nose ring. On a more positive note, the guidance counselors are very dedicated to getting students information about college and helping them make sure they are prepared. The teachers are generally very nice and social. If your child is not part of the more well known and liked families of this town you can bet he/she will have problems regularly. In addition, many teachers in this school do not teach, employing the here's your book, here's you your work, here's you your test method. Teachers are noticeably uncomfortable with parent involvement, yet are quick to blame academic or behavioral problems on parents. I know several parents who have pulled their children out of larger schools to bring them to McEwen because of the attention they get.
