I have a kindergartner at Martin City school. The school takes education very seriously and has a tough curriculum for their students. My student has homework every week and is challenged every day to do his very best. I love this school!

Grandview School District has engaged in what I believe is a clear and ongoing violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g and 34 CFR Part 99, gives parents and eligible students the right to inspect and obtain copies of education records within 45 calendar days of a request, and requires that records be transferred without unnecessary delay when a student enrolls in another school. Despite repeated formal requests for my/our student’s records, and despite the fact that months have passed since the initial request, the district has failed to provide or transfer the requested documents.This is not an administrative delay or a minor oversight — it is a prolonged, unlawful withholding of records that directly disrupts a student’s right to continue their education without interruption. This conduct not only violates FERPA, but also potentially infringes on Missouri state laws regarding student records and enrollment continuity.The district has provided no valid legal justification for this withholding, raising serious concerns about transparency, compliance, and accountability. The consequences for the student are real and significant — including delayed enrollment, missed educational opportunities, and academic setbacks.Families should be aware that this district’s failure to comply with federal law may require formal complaints to the U.S. Department of Education’s Student Privacy Policy Office and possibly further legal action. Parents and guardians entrust schools to act in the best interest of students — that trust is broken when a district chooses to ignore both the law and the needs of its students.
