Honestly this school is a joke, my daughter has been attending this school for about 5 weeks now, she started in the 1st grade and unfortunately she became victim of bullying not once was I informed that these incidents where happening, one thing is for the teacher or school to not be aware of it, but once I spoke with the teacher about it she acknowledged that she was aware of what was going on and even coincided with my daughters story. The communication from the school part is lacking. The problem was never resolved even after me speaking with both the teacher and the principal. The bullying escalated quickly instead of one bully she now has 5 and everyday its something new that was done to her. Up to this date nothing has been resolved and my daughter now cries to go to school and it has affected her well being overall. I went to the district and they as well gave me the run around. So I opted out pulling her from that district overall. It is upsetting that they have tolerance for bullying and they way this situation was handled. It seems for them, that it is easier to ignore the existence of the problem completely ot turn around and point the finger on your child. I can tell you that I am not the only parent whose kid has been a victim of bullying at this school, the whole time I've been dealing with this situation and going back and forth to the office I have seen many other parents not be happy as well in regards to the way this situation was being handled. The principal is hardly ever available to speak with you directly, everything is handled through email and the communication is beyond lacking. Can't believe that kids are having to go through these types of situations at such a young age and the school having tolerance for it, when it is stated that they have zero tolerance for it.

Teachers are excellent, caring and community oriented. The STEAM program is excellent and gives kids the opportunity to think critically and develop the skills necessary to become a responsible global citizen. The AVID program exposes kids early on to a variety of 4 year universities and promotes a school-wide college going culture. SOM also recently received the 2015 CA Gold Ribbon award and a Title 1 academic achievement award for their excellent programs. Only 4% of CA schools can claim such high accolades. Southwest Middle School is truly an innovative and unique place to grow and learn!

Southwest high school may be though to be a "underdog" school but it is not, because its the best school. It may not have the best infrastructure or very fancy equipment yet it has some thing better: safe and tranquil environment, caring teacher and student that will provide the best high school experience. remember once a raider always a raider.
