4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAttending Kernan elementary caused my son to hate school. My son was in kindergarten last year and had 30 children in his class, there isn't any way ANY teacher can properly teach a kindergarten class with so many children. My son suffered because of the overloaded classrooms and began to have behavioral issues in an attempt to get attention this along with the typical inability of a 5 year old to sit still caused his teacher to tell me he needed to be placed on medication for what she saw as a "definate" case of ADHD. I took him to both his doctor and a specialist and both stated he did NOT need medication and did not have ADHD - however, the teacher (who is obviously not a medical specialist) continued to insist he needed medication. When he started kindergarten he tested well and was in the words of his preschool teacher "better than average" he also loved school - when he completed kindergarten at Kernan he hated school, had become withdrawn and was considered to be behind others his age. They put him in 1st grade even though he barely can read - on the teacher's advice they also refered him for special education based on her belief he is ADHD. We are changing school districts.Parent Review11y ago - Senator James H Donovan Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a new student at Proctor High School. Coming from a different town and different school district this school does not follow up with the current standards of a good school. The teachers are very rude and disrespectful to the students which isn’t a good way to build bonds and strengthen learning when the students don’t like you. Also, kids fight in the school almost everyday, multiple times per day, and administrators barely do anything after the fact besides tackling students down to break a fight up. Lastly, teachers try to push their “beliefs” on to the students and when they speak out on whatever they’re saying the teachers tend to feel offended and attempt to embarrass you in front of your entire class. I’d go to any other public high school in Utica if there were others to choose from.Student Review2y ago - Check out schools near 1205 Noyes St.

"I lived in Utica ny for 7 years and for the most part it’s ok as long as you mind your own business but on the flip side not much to do as far as fun is concerned I normally travel outside of Utica for that. The cost of living is good and I have a good paying job but I don’t want to stay here I’m going to eventually move somewhere I want to be."
