The Most Beautiful Lake in Western North Carolina!
With approximately 22 miles of shoreline, and only one public ramp and no marinas, Bear Lake is probably the most pristine and peaceful lake in all of Western North Carolina...at over 2,600' elevation, the mountains breezes are amazing. The lake is the furthest south in the USA where you can actually fish for walleye! The fishing is superb! Bass & trout! Great coves, nooks and crannies to swim and picnic...and some of the most beautiful waterfalls! We have compared it to all other lakes in WNC and there's nothing like it...not crowded like Lake Glenville, and a much higher elevation for cooler summers than Lake Lure, Lake Fontana and Lake James....plus situated right between Cashiers and Sylva! One hour to Asheville airport! Bear Lake is the BEST!!!

"My daughter's family lives in this neighborhood and I have visited her several times. Cullowhee is home to Western Carolina University. It is located close the the Appellation trail and in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The people are friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful mountain setting, and close to dining and shopping in the county seat, Sylva, Plenty of hiking, boating, fishing, and camping opportunities. Bring your camera."
