Eaton Elementary used to be a wonderful school. I really appreciated Mrs. Ho’s care for the students and school, and the PTA did a great job organizing events and activities that gave the kids opportunities to have fun and build community. I’m very grateful for the effort they put in.Unfortunately, my experience has changed significantly since the new principal, Chia-Ching Lin, took over. I have been concerned by what feels like a lack of communication, responsiveness, and attention to the students’ overall experience.For example, on the first day of school, there was reportedly not enough lunch for some of the higher grades, and students had to eat cold cereal instead. I found this especially disappointing and avoidable.I’m also concerned about how extracurricular and enrichment activities have been handled. A music teacher wanted to offer a modern music band during recess, but the program was called off, and parents’ questions were not adequately answered. I’ve also seen concerns around PE, art, and music programs, which are important parts of an elementary school education.More broadly, I would like to see stronger communication with parents and more visible engagement with students and teachers. The school should be a place where academics, creativity, physical activity, and student well-being are all valued.I hope the school leadership can address these concerns and bring back the sense of care, community, and enthusiasm that Eaton Elementary was known for.
