What Locals Say about Murphysboro

  • Trulia User
"My neighborhood has a lot of residents who own ring lights. The neighbors are a little nosey but it’s for a good cause. "

"Murphysboro is a great town, the people are friendly, there is always something to do other than the Apple Fest. Town is surrounded by lakes, hiking trails, and wineries. Murphysboro's bars and restaurants are great, along with coffee shops. We can always use more diversity in our restaurant choices. The town is growing in a positive way and things are happening"

"I lived here and the people are a group of senior citizens and they are particular who lives in the duplexes. Most complain about the landlord and each other. NOT friendly. Too far to walk downtown and no walking distance restaurants. Was happy to move out of that area."

"I lived in on Dewey St. for 3 years, and while it looks like a nice area, just a street over is a very seedy area that is plainly unsafe for women or children to be in. The park a few blocks away is dangerous year-round. There are consistently robberies in the surrounding neighborhood, and to add insult to injury, the sheer number of dog owners who allow their pets to defecate on the sidewalk and in others' yards is staggering. I even own a dog, and I am disgusted with the dog messes everywhere. There is a housing project down the street in which at least one murder a month occurs. I do not recommend this area for anyone who finds an affordable place elsewhere. The safe parts of this city are scattered and right next to areas that are dangerous even during the day. Otherwise, it has nice curb appeal (a lot of trees) and is really cheap. Barely any restaurants to speak of, except for 17th Street BBQ, which one can drive to from another town. "
