        "It has been 3 years since ive moved to Taft & I really do enjoy it. I live in an older well established neighborhood close to the elementary and on a friday night we were cutting tile thinking we wont be disturbing anyone people usually are out BBQ ing but we were the only ones making noise on the whole few blocks at 9:00 pm. People are humble and generally friendly, nosy but friendly. Taxes are Awesome its a very short 13 minute drive through quiet highway overlooking windmills & grassy farm acreage. My complaint is there is no HEB & the Super S is pricey & doesn't carry average brands. There are a many GAME rooms that have opened up sadly & make the 181 HWY look trashy so if thats your thing then there is plenty of entertainment locally. There are several little hole in the wall mexican restaraunts as well that are locally owned. There is a whataburger dollarstore a very nice old fashioned hardware store that is reasonable in prices. Typically the few business that are here in Taft are old fashioned older businesses but they are owned by very frinedly welcoming &people who can make your visit enjoyable none the less. Police are always alert. My garage door was open one late evening as we were back & forth moving in & he stopped to talk & make sure all was ok. If you like to leave your car unlocked. DONT as teens will be teens anywhere you live & things had been stolen down our quiet street. Drainage here is a bit of a set back no fooding of houses but roads can be blocked until that water drains so be selective when you look at homes if they are by the drainage alleys. Trash pick up is twice a week. I believe there's only 1 clinic in town. Overall I love living here the drawbacks are few & are overlooked with the low prices you pay for a home & taxes. Portland is nice & offers more amenities locally but is overpriced & overtaxed saving 11 miles still doesnt justfy the excess cost of living"

        "We Just moved to the Taft area and found that the neighborhood was well established quiet living seems to be the key note here. The law enforcement is above average and very helpful. People are friendly and on any given Friday through Sunday you can drive and be prepared to wave. Surrounded by fields and windmills gives this location an ideal place to retire and a safe and secure place to raise or begin a family. Taft is like portland minus the property tax!"
