The pros are that they have a lot of electives and learning pathways and great opportunities for the students. The biggest con is the principal, Julie Redfield. She allows her teachers to get away with discriminatory behaviors towards students even when their are documented witnesses and the teachers own written account. Parents are not considered partners, rather she is dismissive of any concerns raised. Students with differing beliefs, medical issues, and anxiety are not accommodated.l as she does not prioritize the needs of the individual student. When educators stop caring about kids, its time to retire. Carlsbad High could be great under the right leader and with getting rid of teachers that set the example with discrimination in the classroom.

I honestly struggle to think of what the school does well. My daughter attended Poinsettia Elementary and we were quite pleased. All the teachers had personal relationships with their students and the principal knew everybody. The transition to middle school was night and day. The only students the teacher knows are the troublemakers and the same applies for the Principal. And unfortunately, there are plenty of troublemakers since either the teachers have given up on disciplining the students or the state of California no longer lets them discipline. Whatever the reason, the classrooms are ridiculously chaotic with kids constantly talking back to teachers. It’s not uncommon for kids to be speaking to each other and disrupting class while others are taking a test. The use of AI is so prolific that Kids will use it while taking an open laptop test, and the teacher makes almost no attempt to stop them. I can’t blame the teachers since I don’t know what’s going on and why it’s happening, but I can tell you that the system is broken and usually when it’s this broken, the problem lies at the top. Going forward our child will be in in private

I’m not sure why we are still talking about these issues in 2023 but this schools is not only overrated but mistreated my kids were in fact bi racial with Latino and African American but absolutely not ok and wanted everyone to know what really goes on in this school.. first of all my daughter has GI issues with constant to the restroom and nurses office for her stomach issues, but my daughter came home one day, last year and said her teacher would not send my daughter to the nurse anymore because the “nurse was busy with other kids not for her .. no time for her, which tells you something.. I know also in previous years my oldest son was also mis- accused for an expulsion, while another child who was guilty got a slap on the wrist and let go because his dad was a cop… but I am a mother and will not stand or sit in silence especially after my kids are continually mistreated by these schools.. j letting u know..
