What Locals Say about Gladewater

  • Tracy C. P.
"everyone minds their own business and respects their next door peoples. also watch out for each other and their babies that ride their bikes on the side of the road."

  • Chris B.
"Some of the people are nice. depends on what side of town your in. the school really isn't worth anything, the teachers have mental breakdowns in class, they scream and yell at the students some of then really aren't even certified. they really don't teach anything either they act like they don't know what they're talking about. the city council is kinda unreasonable. the water company will charge you for someone that is the city's responsibility. renters don't take care of their residents. yeah the city sucks."

"I live in Gladewater and grew up here. Gladewater is a town that's changing. Over the past 40 years, many professional people or people of somewhat means have died, homes have changed families, and businesses have closed. Gladewater is a good place, a place where you can find good, genuine people who will help a stranger out; and it's a quiet place, a safe place to live. But you will need to drive 13-15 miles to Longview to buy a man's suit or tie or a lady's dress or suit. Or you can drive 25-30 miles to Tyler. In general, East Texas has a lower-than-average cost of living, the weather is almost always good (except for summers from hell), and the pace is much slower than Dallas 2 hours up the road. Concerts.plays? Go to nearby Kilgore College or Tyler Junior College--see the wonderful Texas Shakespeare Festival or the annual Piano Concerto Program with orchestra; see the Gladewater Roundup Rodeo, a classic tradition, or go out to Lake Gladewater, a truly beautiful, natural place. Don't miss that lake. Also, East Texas abounds with churches from extremely conservative to extremely liberal. And, although the state is currently Republican red, it IS slowly but very surely becoming a bit purple. Oh--in the spring, don't miss the azaleas in Tyler and other areas. The flowers are profuse and provide beauty of the kind those who never visited our part of Texas never dreamed existed. Gladewater, like any other place, has its problems, but overall it's a good place to live. "

"West Lake Dr is very private dead end road making it safe. The lake is wonderful and spring fed so it doesn't drop as much as other lakes. Price estimates on lake front homes are off on sites that do area averages on price, so don't expect to get one for the "average" in the area."
