2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just started in the year 2022-2023. The school is horrible, comparable in every way to prison. The food is diverse which is good but the kids and staff need discipline. Since I've been here there have been multiple fights in front of the teachers. where instances they could have broken them up. The student joke about kids who are not of the same race, if not how they act or look. I have seen kids call other teachers slurs and names. Just for telling the student they are in the wrong. I have to say though I have made enough friends to help me in need. Some of the teachers try to make an effort on teaching the kids even when they have issues with the students and proximity learning. The only reason it got one star from me was because of the sports and food.Parent Review1y ago - James Hurst Elementary School

"I lived here for many year's it's a dangerous place now. And the price they are trying to charge is ridiculous. You can live in a nice place for the prices they are asking here. It's laughable. "

"Commute is not an issue. The neighborhood is clean and they're still building. Good schools in the area and just a feeling of being home is overwhelming. Expensive but it's well worth the it. Really safe feeling and kid friendly, can't wait to move into this area"

"gunshots? car brake ins, car theft, house break ins. lol I'm not sure what else was expected. It's not the best place to live or raise children"

"There are plenty of sidewalks and a nice neighborhood that’s quiet to walk your dogs through. Not much traffic to have to deal with so that’s perfect. Also depending on where you live at, there’s a nature trail across from you that you’re able to walk through and it’s perfect throughout the spring time! It welcomes every kind of dog also so that’s a bonus! "

"It’s not. It’s crappy and we want to move.............................. we need more cops roaming the area "

"the gunshots I hear at night bring me a little closer to my nightmares I have had since Vietnam and that's special to me "

"This is a very friendly area, neighbors and children that pass you by on the walk always say hello. Always someone asking if they could cut your lawn. A look after each other community with its own Church's, Fire Department, Library and Stores."

"My family owned a house on Aylwin from 1918-2010. I remember stories of a nice neighborhood when it was Craddock but changed after annexation by Portsmouth. There was a man shot in front of my house about 2005 and a number of times we watched unlawful things happen in the park. After the death of family member (1994) it was not really a primary living spot but we did stay and visit regularly and maintained the property (never rented) Hated to sell the family home but in 2010 it was too much and sold at a big loss. My family attended preschool and schools in a different area of state, not in a school with a cop and metal detector at the door. The city of Portsmouth will not help, water too high, police indifferent. Maybe if you are used to living in a city that is the way it is but if I were you I would buy in a neighhood outside of Portsmouth preferably in the country. "

"I have visited this locale many times including Afton Square. People are very friendly in passing, kids playing and laughing. 3 different churches within walking distance. Very diverse neighborhood."
