2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageEver since the new Principal Juan Ruelas arrived in August, 2015, the school has been transformed, even though there was been a backlash of Teacher Union agitators and labor attorney's trying to protect some incompetent teachers who spend more time pushing their political agenda than educating the kids. The local media is complicit with City Councilman Victor Gordo (who is a Labor Attorney himself) and his staff Vannia de la Cuba who together with her husband, Esteban Steve Lizardo (another Labor Attorney) have used the school, kids and community for personal political gain. You see, Gordo, Lizardo, Pasadena employee Vannia de la Cuba fight for teachers that are NOT even good enough for their own kids and have done everything in their power to attack the new Principal EVEN BEFORE HE ARRIVED AT THE SCHOOL. Then there's another character aligned with these status quo incompetents; Pablo Alvarado - who heads the $10 an hour Labor Center on Lake Ave. Pablo lost his keys to the school and has been on a rampage since to disrupt the school. Together with the bogus civil rights attorneys Dale Gronenmeier and Hickambottom, (who could be respected if they actually represented the kids who have been failed by the previous leadership of the school) all these people listed above are what is worst in our community. They fight against what is best for kids and only care about their political power. Sound familiar? For now, you'll need to go to the school yourself to see that the kids are no longer running down the halls. Teacher's are no longer sneaking in and out of their classroom windows.... and there is actually now a climate of safety, respect and responsibility which these previous influencers listed above hoped would not occur. FINALLY.... there is hope for the children of Madison School. In the meantime, the City needs to be more vigilant with the after school use of the campus by Pablo Alvarado and his middle aged soccer friends who have forced themselves onto the campus with the help of Gordo and Vannia de la Cuba. There are numerous reports that beer bottles, drug paraphernalia, condoms, trash left on campus as possible payback? Mayor Tornek may too be complicit as he tries to appease the Teacher Union bullies and their allies.Other Review9y ago1 Reviews - John Muir High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageExtremely chaotic. Students are disrespectful to teachers. Have little concern for learning. At times kids are running around wild. Feel that teachers don't really care about the situation or just feel things are just out of control.Other Review2mo ago8 Reviews - Check out schools near Wright Ave #1.

"This is a very dog-friendly neighborhood. Lots of fellow dog-walkers and a nearby park. But also the occasional skunk or coyote, so you always have to be on alert. "

"We like to see other friendly dog owners getting along with other dog owners. Like how they pick up after their mess. And be respectful and kind with each other. "

"There are some areas that are less safe than others…ask your old-time neighbors. (For example, don’t walk in these streets alone or at night)."

"We live on Glen Ave which is a quiet street with really good neighbors all around. It's much more attractive and well kept than South of Washington or immediately North of Woodbury, although North of Woodbury has been gentrifying extremely rapidly especially since Covid started. There are quite a few churches and a Buddhist temple. This area is very convenient with really awesome supermarkets like Super King and Vallarta that have much better produce options than Vons or Pavilions, which are also nearby. It's extremely quick to get to Trader Joe's as well. You can easily access outdoor and water activities at the Rose Bowl, the arroyo, or Descanso Gardens and there is a 24 hour fitness at Woodbury & Lincoln if you want to stay indoors. The kids from the high school walk home through the neighborhood but they generally behave themselves and it hasn't been a problem. Street parking is easy but guests parking overnight in Pasadena need a $5 permit that you get from a kiosk at the fire station on Fair Oaks."

"Well I live in upper Altadena, but i used to live down on w mountain and I liked it there. I mean other than the “landlord” there (she’s long gone btw) , and there was the occasional parties that personally didn’t bug me but I know how it can be. But anyway Altadena is really cool and mostly quiet. And ever now and then you’ll see a couple of horseback riders which I love and I’d say that sorta unique."
