Types of apartment in Sioux Falls, SD
Sioux Falls apartments range from older brick walk-ups near Downtown and Cathedral Historic District to newer garden-style apartments in the south and west. Around All Saints and Pettigrew Heights, you can still find early 1900s houses for rent with front porches, wood siding, and steep roofs. Near Downtown, many apartments sit in low-rise brick buildings with simple entries and small parking lots. Interiors in older places often include radiator heat, hardwood floors, and smaller closets. Newer apartments in areas near 57th Street, Louise Avenue, and Tea-Ellis Road often have vinyl siding, attached garages, wider hallways, and in-unit laundry. On the east side near Arrowhead Parkway and on the north side by Falls Park and the airport, apartments often sit in newer multi-building complexes with surface parking and easier car access. In McKennan Park and along Minnesota Avenue, you can also find duplexes and split-level houses for rent mixed in with small apartment buildings. Exterior style changes a lot by area. Central Sioux Falls has more brick, mature lots, and converted houses. South and west Sioux Falls has more townhome-style apartments, beige or gray siding, and larger parking areas. Tradeoffs are pretty clear. Older apartments can have more character and tighter layouts, while newer apartments often have more storage and simpler upkeep.
