What Locals Say about Northport

"I don’t commute. We live here seasonally and live and work elsewhere the rest of the year. There’s little traffic but no public transit."
  • Jsteward
"We have spontaneous neighborhood parties, summer theatricals, an annual end of summer barbecue, and much more!"

"We live in Northport. It's a bedroom community to Belfast that never seems to get it's due. It is a lovely place to raise a family. It's safe and the people are wonderful and neighborly. Northport has miles of coastline and beautiful sloping hill vistas-complete with magnificent trees. The Fall color is some of the best in the area. We are so glad we chose Northport as our home town. It is Mid-Coast Maine's little secret. We have a full service market, a little country store, restaurants, galleries, a picturesque and quaint Victorian Gingerbread Cottage village on the water called "Bayside" and abundant peace and quiet. We have the best Town Hall Staff in the area too. If you are a private person - Northport is the place to live in mid-coastal Maine. An added attraction for our family is "free" access to the outstanding Belfast Library. If there is a medical emergency - the Northport First responders Team is among the best in the state. We recommend Northport highly."

"We have lived in Northport since 1988. We love living here. We escaped from Southern California to enjoy for the "simple" life of Maine. Northport is peaceful, private and just beautiful and I might add with miles of coastline to explore. The local people are wonderful and very down to earth. The town office and fire dept. staff are the best. We are close to vibrant artsy Belfast for shopping - as well as - other shopping locales in the mid-coast area. Northport even has a new full service family operated grocery store. The Bangor Airport is only an hour away. If you prefer a coastal country setting and enjoy nature and still want to be within a reasonable driving distance to other areas--we could not recommend a better hamlet than Northport. We purchased a contemporary house on a hill with magnificent water and forest views all year round. Normally, most people purchase more New England style homes when moving to Maine. Blame our choice on what we were exposed to on the left coast! We are close to the Atlantic Coast Hwy--which is great if there is a health or weather emergency. When we decide to sell--it will be hard to leave. We have so many wonderful memories of our Camelot above the sea. As an aside-the summer traffic during the day time on the Atlantic Coast Highway moves at a fast clip. October through late June--traffic is not an issue. In the winter--on a snowy night--the only sounds that echo up our hillside is an occasional D.O.T. snow plow truck. Northport is a hidden jewel in Maine's crown. Ostentatious and/or pseudo intellectuals would not be happy here - only those who prefer to be low key and take life as it comes would appreciate the true value of the Northport life style. Nature at it's best and sometimes most challenging when a Nor'easter or Sou'easter blows in! We LOVE Northport, Maine!"
