"I have visited this area several times and am considering moving here. It is quiet and people are friendly. There are several choices for dining and some shopping options "
  • mh
"You need a car to commute. It’s mostly a summer time community. Not many jobs in the immediate area. Mostly residential. "

"This area is a nice place to live. Sure, we have theives and deliquent youth and adults, we have alcoholics and it's easier to hide a meth lab out here but we don't have daily/nightly murders, rapes, nor gang activity. We typically don't have a "bad" part of town. Our community can be jolted by a single death. Murder? MAYBE once a year in the whole county (includes several small towns). Knox has it's pro's and con's no different than any other small city, You CAN get a bad reputation and everyone will know it, just well as a good reputation. It's easy to become well known. There are about 4,500 people (in city limits) As you leave city limits, homes have large lots or many many acres. Farm animals produce odors and commit acts of reproduction without regard to human occupancy so expect no less. Shopping is limited. There's only 2 grocery stores (and one only carries off brands) There's several restaurants, a Family Dollar, Alco, and a Dollar General. If you want Walmart/Kmart its a 15-30min drive. Mall and city shopping are one to one and a half hour's drive +/- away to the north (South Bend/Mishawaka) to the west (Valparaiso/Merrillville) to the east (Warsaw then Fort Wayne) and to the south (Logansport). Chicago and Indianapolis are about 2 hours away. If you are from a large city PLEASE come visit for an extended stay before moving out here. It IS different. We are not intellectually slower than city folk...our lives are just a bit less complicated and laid back."
