What Locals Say about Central Lawrenceville

  • Keith
"I have a short 5 minute walk to work. Grocery stores are a short and convenient drive away. While we aren’t transit users, the bus stops are easy to get on Butler. "

"Great neighborhood, there is nothing that a parent should know while raising children in this area. This is a walking district now and the streets and sidewalks fill up in the summer months. "

"You see people walking their dogs. The dogs are friendly, the owners are not. Not many people pick up after them. "

"Thankfully, I am able to walk to work in the strip district currently. Other jobs I was able to catch a bus easily. People are quite central to major areas of Pittsburgh. Though stick to the main roads. The side streets were never built for cars and the amount of traffic it now sees. The City and Developments totally ignores the parking situation. Many side street cars are sideswiped daily and trucks hit and run quite frequently. Fri, Sat & Sunday visitors should get dropped off & picked up by a friend, or driving service. "

"There are a ton of dogs in the area. And a dog park at about 40th street. For the most part dogs and their owners are very friendly and nice!"

"Plans to build up the green areas in Upper Lawrenceville are underway, along with several new eateries and marketplaces. Housing options have expanded with construction of several condo/apartment buildings and rehabbed condos that have the industrial charm of a working class neighborhood fitted with modern amenities. Lawrenceville is a long walk or a 10 minute bike ride to downtown. It is located along the river just beyond the popular Strip District. For perspective, downtown spans 2nd to 10th streets, the Strip stretches from 11th to 30th, and Lawrenceville starts on 31st down to about 50th. Shopping and dining options are mostly devoid of chain-style options, with high-quality local boutiques, eateries, and retail shops dotting the main corridor.. save for a Wendy's and Subway at 40th). Parking can be difficult on the weekends, but is much easier than the crowded South Side. Crime is still a challenge in some parts of Lawrenceville. Most of the trouble comes from teenagers with too little to do. And it's not uncommon to see one or two alcohol- and/or drug-addled locals travelling Butler Street on foot. But overall, the neighbors are friendly and protective, the community is engaged, and the riffraff is gradually moving on as property values rise (due in part to the Children's Hospital constructed on 44th)."
