"Bought a house here a few months ago and have been enjoying it! We love walking to Bellemeade Park and how much outdoor space we have on our property, neighbors all seem nice but haven’t had too many interactions since it seems like people mostly mind their business and keep to themselves (which I don’t mind at all!) Close to downtown and all the interstates, and I can still get groceries in carytown in about a 12-15 min drive which isnt bad although hope one day there will be an aldi or something in Southside. The area is definitely improving though"
  • alicia
"Pretty easy commute to any direction, close to 95 and 64. Downtown commute is extremely close, 8-12 minutes depending on your exact location. Plenty of GRTC bus stops in walking/biking distance"
  • Alice A
"Bellemeade is still underrated currently, the park is beautiful and I see kids biking around all the time. It’s super close to downtown, and I can bike to the river in about 20 mins or bike to coffee shops in Manchester or forest hill. I know Hillside Court is historically seen as a rough area, but as long as you don’t live right across the street from it it’s fine, I never hear gunshots where I am closer to the park and I have never felt unsafe "
  • Alice A
"Fairly central location, very close to downtown and highways to get to any direction pretty quickly. "
  • Bob Cahill
"Great area for walking your dog. Owners are very generous about letting you pet their dog. and everyone picks up after their dog. "
  • Maria Begonia
"Like: Dog parks, Richmond also has a lot of things to do and go! Dislike: neighbors not very friendly "
  • 8wbrmvh5t4
"They would like it because of all the sidewalks and because many other dog owners seem to enjoy it. "
  • Unspecified
"Yearly neighborhood holiday, family, and kid centered gatherings in the large community and gardening space."
  • Sputman
"There are a lot of open spaces to walk your dogs. There are also so many wonderful parks and trails close by to visit. We walk every day and always have a different place to go. "
  • Sam Hudnall
"Do not raise children within city limits. move to south chesterfield, or west henrico. 30 minute drive to downtown, less of the hustle, and better community for young impressionable minds."
  • Alison Starr
"Safe as things can be with parental oversight. Beautiful trees, wooded areas, some biking trails, families with pets, library nearby."
  • 7f2zn58k6d
"It is a well maintained neighborhood that is off the beaten path. We have food trucks, neighborhood events, and the community actively participates in town halls. "
  • Isobelle Johns
"This neighborhood isn’t built with pedestrians in mind. There are no sidewalks, leaving children and families without a safe path to walk or play. Streetlights are absent, making it dark and potentially hazardous after sunset. The lack of these basic amenities means the area isn’t walkable or friendly for those on foot. To get anywhere—whether it’s school, the store, or simply out for fresh air—having a car feels more like a necessity than an option. It’s a community designed for vehicles, not people, and it shows in how challenging it is to navigate without wheels. Quite limiting, don’t you think?"
  • Trulia User
"I would describe my commute as a normal commute when I am commuting in my community. It is easy due to me having a vehicle."
  • Duangchay
"There are new middle school and VCU near me. The street just got new bump settle so I think it is safer for children. The cars will run with speed limit because of that speed bump sign. "
  • Stevenchasejordan
"Our section of Richmond is known as North Chesterfield. It has excellent schools, neighborhoods, markets, stores, restaurants and entertainment. "
  • Tracey C.
"I was raised in Blackwell from the 70's to 1990 I love it as a child and I love it now. I moved to Oak Grove area and lived there from 1990 to 2015 I just LOVED SOUTHSIDE!!!!!"
  • Jemma H.
"I live on a very quite block in this area. There are new housing going up in the area. Neighbors are friendly and it's a upcoming area with hard working people. "
  • Monica_norfleet
"Great school system kids love it. Not very diverse. Neighbors not welcoming at all. But overall good school "
  • Kajaiyaiu
"I don’t commute, but it’s very easy to get anywhere in the greater Richmond area. Quick drive to Carytown, plus easy access to Chippenham and the Powhite. "
  • Trulia User
"Great neighborhood, save and nice people. I’m happy to be in Midlothian. There are all you need. Shopping, restaurants, activities, etc "
  • Trulia User
"Some don’t have pit bulls leashed while they walk em down the road and they do not listen to their owners"
  • Trulia User
"not a good place for kids and families. lots of drugs and all that jazz. purely trash on the turnpike "
