And they say journalism doesn’t pay! Well it certainly has for Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos. The former White House Communications Director for Bill Clinton, who flipped to the broadcasting side of things years ago, is living large: He just listed his five-bed, seven-bath estate in Southampton, NY for $5.995 million.
The 4800-square-foot home is tucked behind gates at the end of a hedged, extremely private lane. Set on one-and-a-half acres of lush, rolling lawns, dotted with hydrangea and dense specimen trees, the traditional-style home is the beach house of anyone’s dreams. Step inside to the sunny living room, where soaring coffered ceilings sit above the traditional mantle, as well as a towering library wall. A “live-in” kitchen has a spacious center marble island, dual refrigerators and ovens, and plenty of space for gathering and eating with family. Double doors separate each room, including the beautiful first floor master suite- a sprawling oasis in one’s own home that has its own private library. A fully renovated lower level has everything you need for entertaining: a media room with a wet bar, a 1000-bottle wine cellar, personal gym, game room, and a beautiful guest room with four custom built-in bunks. Outside, the estate has a sunken all-weather tennis court, oversized Gunite swimming pool, and sprawling patio space for catching some rays.
Stephanopoulos isn’t the only current GMA anchor with a fondness for high-end real estate: his co-anchor Michael Strahan has owned luxurious properties all across the country. While there’s no reason given the sale of the Hamptons house, we’re wondering if maybe George wants to spend more time in the city, what with The Today Show‘s surge in the ratings since Matt Lauer‘s departure. But seeing as George, and his lovely wife, writer/comedian Ali Wentworth, live in a $6.5 million home on Manhattan‘s Upper East Side, that’s not too much of a sacrifice.
