What Locals Say about Homerville

  • Randall S.
"Homerville is a farming and Amish community. There is a community center where the Homerville Ruitans and others have events. Electricity is provided via Co-op. Land-line phone service and wireless are available. Cable TV/Internet/Phone access is spotty at best but gradually becoming more available. Check to see if the property has cable (Time Warner) available if it is a must. Fire and EMT provided by Town & Country. Policing is provided by the Medina County Sheriff and or State Police depending on what road you live on. Traffic noise from Rt. 224, Rt. 301, Rt. 42, Rt.83 and I-71 is minimal. It is very quiet except for the occasional train passing on the tracks. Aircraft overhead are usually too high to be heard or of the single engine private variety. During certain events like the Cleveland International Air Show you may get to see some practicing going on. The A/F reserves will also practice low level flight in C130's, but it is a rare occurrence and usually occurs when most people are out for the day or at work. These practice flights usually consist of a single tree top pass of about 2-3 C130's. The Amish are well established in the area and are a part of everyday life. You WILL see their buggies on the roads at least once from dawn to dusk. They rarely travel at night, but do on occasion. You can buy fresh produce, eggs, and more from them. They are always friendly and will gladly help you out on your property for a fair price. The school system is The Black River School District that currently has busing for most of it's students. There are several small towns that are easy to get to. Lodi & West Salem are the closest. This provides you with convenient shopping for when the need arises. There is no inexpensive public transportation available. You must have a vehicle and preferably one that drives well on snow and ice. It is advisable to purchase a weather alert radio for use in your home. The weather can rapidly turn ugly and this will keep you informed"
