What Locals Say about Kalihi-Palama

  • Rlumford04
"It’s a wonderful place to raise children. Has a low crime rate and good neighbors in the area. Awesome food choices near shopping and hiking trails. The parks and recreation area are kept clean and the community has great restaurants and comraderi "
  • Ncqzpbjvjh
"Its Kalihi. We are home to a bunch of underrated restaurants. And that’s how I like it. There’s so much different communities here. It’s sad that only the negative gets highlighted here."
  • Bruna Oliveira
"I don’t really like this neighborhood, specifically where I live, down to Waena apartments, people are crazy, dirty and not polite "
  • Trulia User
"There is an easy bus transportation I can ride my moped, or my bicycle, or my car was very easy access"
  • Justin A.
"Decent shopping center. Lots of restaurants. Lots of small restaurants too. Many of them niche. Very popular. "
  • Sidney A.
"Not an animal users due to buildings don’t allow animals or pets and don’t have time to take care of them animals."
  • Pjpasada
"side walk they made is bad cause now it's not a side walk but we get ticket anyways poor living area"
  • Irine_delarosa
"I drive to get around town. I wouldn't catch the bus in my neighborhood unless I absolutely have no other transportation. Safety is my main concern. I believe the community needs a neighbor watch. We need to come together as neighbors and keep our community safe. "
  • Irine_delarosa
"Just church events that I know of. Wish there were community events but I am not aware about any except for the day after Thanksgiving. Bands, schools, churches, police department, for department, and etc. march along North King Street and passes out candies and goodies to the children. wish there could be more other than this. "
  • Chris W. .
"There isn’t a place Ike a dog park to legally take your dog to play. Like most urban environments it lacks green space for when you take your dog out to walk. "
  • Lorrie F.
"I don't see much dog walking. At least on the street I live there are alot of teens and young adults that hang out on the sidewalk."
  • Bosche
"Terrible environment, crime rate is HIGH!!! Have to watch you back and your vehicle at all times. Sleep with one eye open cause if the gangs there know what you have in your home, forget about it being yours. Drive by and just look to be the judge. Save your family from any problems!.... even the postal service people have been robbed!!!"
  • Anon
"We occasionally have cook outs at the nearby park. A lot of people come out and the kids play at the playground and have a good time."
  • Pjpasada
"the community is very bad we have a game room next we're I live I seen people break into cars and people robbing people I hear gun shots some time.it use to be okay now it's so bad that I gotta watch my kids all the time cause it isn't safe anymore"
  • Galuterag

"Very hard with no car. Everybody in the neighborhood does drugs. It’s the cheapest places to live but the scariest."
  • Jacqueline T.
"I was born and raised on the island and I grew up in the Chinatown-Kalihi area. It’s always been a little shady but there is a large police presence in the area. "
