7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son started on his educational journey at Spring Run in Kindergarten. Given the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and his attendance of pre-K at home during this period, we were aware he faced challenges catching up. Despite our repeated efforts to engage with the faculty for support, the personalized teaching assistance we sought was not provided. In a meeting with his 1st-grade teacher, it was emphasized that no further interventions could be made unless he underwent an evaluation for an IEP. In response, we requested supplementary work for him to complete at home, expecting a moderate workload. Instead, we were inundated with an overwhelming volume of daily assignments, necessitating weekend sessions to keep up. Faced with this circumstance, we reluctantly proceeded with the IEP evaluation, only to discover the test results did not support the need for such a program. Throughout numerous discussions, it was acknowledged that our son lagged behind, yet no provisions were in place to facilitate his catch-up. We were informed that Chesterfield County standards necessitated his ability to independently pass the SOL, despite his below-average reading skills and the absence of adequate support. This educational struggle deeply impacted my son's emotional well-being at the tender age of 6. His sense of inadequacy and frustration is reflected in his statements about feeling unintelligent and incapable of handling the work. Observing a continuation of these challenges as he entered 2nd grade, my husband and I made the difficult decision to withdraw him from Spring Run after the second-quarter assessments. As a parent with two older children who have successfully navigated their educational journeys, this has been an unparalleled and distressing experience. School should be an environment that fosters learning and enjoyment, not a place where a child is left behind due to administrative constraints or statistical requirements. While I am familiar with the school setting through my older children's experiences, the lack of support and understanding for my younger child's needs at Spring Run has been disappointing. I believe that no child should face such hurdles in an educational environment, especially when the necessary support and attention can make a significant difference.Parent Review4mo ago - Cosby High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNew to the area. We just moved in and have been warmly welcomed. The kids are studious, and the area seems academically minded. High School homework load is about 1 hour to 2 a day. The only complaint I have heard is that the cafeteria food could use improvement... perhaps a sub sandwich bar could be added! :) The school allows online courses with permission, even foreign language if they do not offer a specific one, which is great. Its a good school.Parent Review6y ago - Check out schools near 9416 Winterpock Rd.

"Regardless of how nice a neighborhood is, there could be any “kidnappers” and dangers to worry about like anywhere else. It just takes bad people to go to a different area. So be mindful, but this is one of the “safer” areas that I know. "
