8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNorth Central is an okay school, depending on what you're looking for and what support you want for your child. I graduated 8th grade at North Central in May 2022, and went there for 7th and 8th grade. The main reason I gave the school 3 stars was the teachers and lack of control they had over the school. Throughout my time at North Central, the teachers allowed students to be on their phones during class. Students would watch TikToks, text, and even record others without their consent. Those videos would be later posted onto social media sites. Although this may seem like an obvious problem, the teachers did not seem to care. Many students did not pay attention, as they were listening to their Airpods or using their phones. During group projects, I would often be the only one working, and the rest of my group would do the bare minimum. There is absolutely no academic rigour whatsoever. All through junior high, the classwork was below 7th/8th grade level. There isn't much to say about this. It could be helpful if your child needs more academic support, but it could be frustrating for more advanced students. The students are very entitled and think they can get away with everything. An example of this is the bullying at North Central. Students in my class have made TikTok videos making fun of our peers. During my time at this school, I experienced bullying multiple times. I informed teachers of the situation, but they did not talk to the students causing the problems. This behavior is not acceptable, but the teachers at North Central do not seem to care.If you would like to send your child to a school where they feel ignored and not cared about, North Central is the school for you.Other Review1y ago - Buford Garner Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went here from kindergarten to 5th grade, and even as a current high schooler, this is my favorite school I’ve ever attended. I always thought that the teachers were kind to all students, and gave everyone the same opportunities. The only issue I had with this school is how the staff members handled some students, specifically students with behavior issues. There were numerous times when my class would be disrupted, because a student with a behavior issue got out of control. Often times, we would even have to clear the classroom. If these incidents were handled well, I wouldn’t have an issue with it, as I know the behavior of some students does not reflect on the quality of the school. However, when one of these incidents would happen, the teachers would do nothing besides keep other students out of the way. For example, I have a very vivid memory of someone in my 4th grade class getting out of control, and throwing chairs around in the “pod” area. Meanwhile, the principal and another teacher were doing nothing; just standing there, drinking their coffee. Overall, loved my experience going to Garner Elementary was great, and I still have very good memories of the school.Other Review1y ago - Liberty High School

"North Liberty Jazz Fest. I believe it happens once a year and is located across the area school. Usually nice music and good food with plenty of options. Unfortunately because of such large turnouts they have banned bringing dogs into the area. "

"Everyone has dogs. Most yards are fenced in which makes it pet friendly. Some neighbors aren’t the best about their dogs barking but most are. "

"Great schools friendly people and low crime rate. These are huge qualities of North Liberty. Coming from Boston, you would never get a public school education there like you can get here. "

"North liberty used to be a very nice, quiet, bedroom community. It was a wonderful small town with a quaint feel. However, over the last 10 years has become another generic suburbia. On average, there is one strip mall for every 10 residents with more being built every week. Even though more than half of the properties sit vacant, the city continues to allow more to be built. When strip malls aren’t being built, there are overpriced zero lots and condos going up. The housing market is so overpriced that finding a decent home for less than $225,000 is just about impossible. 15 years ago you could find a three bedroom two bath house with a huge backyard for under 130,000. "Plenty of walking trails and parks to venture to all over no matter what part of the town you’re in, dog parks and hiking trails all quite close as well and just outside of town. Seems to be more pet friendly rental wise here than Iowa City. "
