1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI see why most students are falling behind. Careless, and forgetful staff who stick up for each other, even when wrong. Too busy to communicate properly with parents. If your child is enrolled in any special needs courses they will most likely fall through the cracks, and the school is ok with it.Parent Review3y ago - Traice

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children and I love Mayo Demonstration. The principal knows every child by name and greets everyone each morning. The teachers are top notch and really care about each student. The nontraditional, hands on style of teaching is truly a blessing. Mayo is truly a great school!!Parent Review8y ago - Booker T. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to this for one year, one year only. I hated it so much that I wanted to write a book to vent about it. If I could I would rate this school a zero. You know why? Not many will hear this in a review, but the school had the streaming of obscenity that teachers seemed not to notice. As you will see in other reviews it talk about cherry picking - picking high grade students- what they don't tell you is they don't pick their students very well. For teachers and all people that don't know about carver and people in carver, the kids at carver and teachers cussed, talked about porn, teachers not being aware, distractions like crazy; students distracting me and other students in class, bully a lot, discrimination; students using racial slurs, teachers that don't really like their job; which I would prefer them to for other students that are still there, it put me under tremendous stress; the students would call me buck head and nerd, and etc... I can't say anymore , there is much more, than that because I'm running, but I'm running out of characters. All I have to say is don't go to this school if you want to be bullied and desensitized to violence a crude stuff.Other Review10y ago - East Central Junior High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI graduated from Thoreau after it reopened in 1999. While middle school can be socially challenging anywhere, my experience at the school was academically and psychological traumatic. Teachers did not teach foundational academic concepts in many cases. For example, when I attended, we were not taught basic middle school math curriculum. Since math builds upon itself, not learning the basics put me severely behind in high school. Class sizes were very large, even with a para teacher in the class, and there was too much emphasis on group projects versus individual accountability. There were a lot of thug type students / gangbangers in training there since the admissions are not based on academic merit, it’s just a lottery from various parts of town with no credentials. Lord of very mean kids that would bully others.I’ve heard it has declined even more and sadly, was at its best early on when I attended. Thankfully, I left TPS for private school, but would have had a happier experience going to one of the many excellent private schools. Pls look carefully prior to sending your child here if you have other options!Other Review8mo ago - Henry Zarrow International School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average6th year as a Zarrow Aguila! Bitter sweet to see my Aguila fly off to middle school. She has had a time of her life and 5th grade graduation ceremony is ready to send her off as a well rounded, prepared young lady. Diversity around her makes her proud of the uniqueness she has to offer. Loved every day of class and every single teacher and staff, current and past, that school had offered. Always willing to help child and never losing child's best interest. PTA! Wow! Hats off as well. PARENTS AND TEACHERS, true meaning of working hand in hand! Thank you!Other Review7y ago - Dual Language Immersion

"I've lived here for a year. It's quite enough, other than the air traffic. Neighbors have nice holiday decorations and lots of garage sales."

"I've lived in this neighborhood for 6years and can honestly say it gets worse every year, my grandkids play out front all the time and the way people drive up and down this road at all speeds is ridiculous. I'm in the process of finding somewhere else so my grandkids will be safe to play "

"Nothing, it's a typical neighborhood. Good and bad live here. some are neighborly, some, not so much. Some people allow their Dogs to run through neighborhood daily. There are slot of stray cats, and dogs run thru and live in neighborhood. Don't leave anything u want in ur front yard. It will be taken. Homeless go thru neighborhood looking for empty houses to set up in. Nothing really great in this neighborhood. Speeders speed thru streets blow stop signs. Also some drugs. I've lived in this neighborhood for 2 1/2 yrs. Gang Unit in neighborhood frequently. "
