7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIm only a freshman rn (3/7/22) but i love it already. best tip for incoming freshmen to help you get along well with your upperclassmen is to not be obnoxious and try not to stir up too much drama. if you act immature the upperclassmen wont rlly like you that much. we like our quiet and we dont wanna have a headache first thing in the morning.Student Review2y ago - Northwest Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son came home asking for money to give to his teacher. I asked him what he was talking about, and he said she gave out food during a movie and he wanted to pay her back. I told him he wasn't allowed to have that particular snack and was upset teachers were handing out food and breaking their own policies. The kids are not allowed to bring in cupcakes on their birthday but the teachers can hand out whatever food they want? I called the school and left a message. The teacher that handed the food out was my son's homeroom teacher, and oddly I got a call back from his English teacher. She told me she was calling on behalf of his homeroom teacher and that "I needed some perspective on this because she was only doing it to be kind" I was BLOWN AWAY that this teacher did not have the guts to call me back, but had another teacher call me and berate me when they BROKE THEIR OWN RULE. Its not a kind gesture when you don't want your kid eat garbage in the middle of the day, when I packed him a nice full lunch. Not only that, the first week of 7th grade a boy took a picture of my son while he was using the bathroom. Let's not forget the fights and vaping problem. I am disgusted with this school and am looking at other options.Parent Review1y ago - Taneytown Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a father of two girls attending Taneytown. I admit when my girls were born we did NOT want them going here due to all the negative scores online. In fact, we bought land outside the area to build on once they got closer in age. Then the market crashed. We were stuck facing this Title-1 low-scoring school that had many negative reviews even from parents. Nervous was an understatement. With no other choice we started Kindergarten, then first, then second, then third, and again Kindergarten then first with our 2nd child. As time passed our narrow views expanded vastly. The Title-1 status actually provided unforeseen benefits for everyone. The school had access to additional State money (that no other school had) that paid for additional teachers per class, advancements in technology, free morning breakfast for all, and sponsored academic afterschool events. Although true that seemingly only the same parents participate, during the day no one was at a disadvantage. The staff quickly identifies learning gaps and effectively tailors lessons in a very enthusiastic and energetic way, just as you’d expect a young staff to do. Even the students that excel are further challenged to demonstrate their understanding by teaching or reading to younger grade students, in affect building leadership and communication skills. I found the way the common core math is taught here is very different and VERY challenging to understand. However, I also acknowledge this is actually the way I do math in my head. Therefore, if grades need to suffer now to make it easier for these students later, I am all in support of the difficult way math is taught here. The kids here are fantastic and very much still just children learning the world. They don’t understand social status, dis/advantage, races, or hatred. Just like everyone else they only want to be understood. Yes, some parents might not care so grades can slip further but their KIDS are great and very much ready to be taught. Taneytown Elementary does a great job of caring for them, listening to them, and teaching them the educational foundation they need. Thank you to all of the staff for giving it your all every day. It's been noticed.Parent Review7y ago - Check out schools near 67 Crimson Ave.

"I have lived in Taneytown for almost 12 years. It’s quiet and beautiful farmland. The community activities are fun for our children as well as my husband and I. There are plenty of areas to walk our dogs and play with them. The kids enjoy the community park and pond. "

"Nothing it is very dangerous and is not a very good place to raise your kids I would not recommend this neighborhood to anyone at all. You have a library though and there are a lot of shops and stores and a pharmacy and a dollar store "

"Taneytown is clean and beautiful. It's a Main Street community - over 250 years old - with so much history, so many old and vibrant churches, so much in shopping and eating out. Such a small town yet with two large grocery stores, wine & liquor, several service stations, auto mechanics, hardware stores, doctors, clinics, pharmacy, dentists, parks, library & its own Hallmark store! Florists and gift boutiques, antiques and tea rooms! Great food - even Chinese! Westminster is only 10-15 mins away with all the huge stores - Sears, Kohls, Boscovs, Home Depot, Lowes - and malls and cinema. Drive-ins - like many!, restaurant chains including Sakura, the Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, and more than I can remember ... and elegant dining like Maggie's! The town is so great, and is it surrounded by more beautiful historic communities. Scenery and commerce. I can't even begin to mention all the great places I enjoyed ... oh, the restaurants in Thurmont and in Frederick, in Hanover and in Gettysburg. And the great boutiques for shopping! I moved to CV from Silver Spring and am returning for only one reason ... to be closer to my children as I age and need surgery. The drive between my Carroll Vista and Silver Spring homes is a beautiful and easy route. I am not settled into the new place yet, but I do love being so close to my kids. I have been alone since 1979; living in Carroll Vista was a nice change from my quiet life. So many clubs and activities, special events and travel. A huge clubhouse (15,000sf) and indoor and outdoor pools but all the other facilities - banquet room(s), dance floor, kitchen - but being one hour from my family became too much for me. I am not settled, but I am happier! I can not imagine anyone not loving Taneytown and its residents. Sometimes I wish I had separated my life from my children's lives so I could continue to enjoy what I had there! What I have listed here doesn't even scratch the surface. Come and enjoy this great town!"
